blocks with fade divot

Recommended Posts

I have recently changed my setup to where the handle is aimed just right of my belt buckle creating a straighter line with my right arm (lefthanded player). Previously i had the handle straight in line with my zipper with a slight cup in right wrist. Since changing i either hit a pull or a block but my divot always pointing to the right (with cup in wrist divots almost always pointed at target). the reason for changing was to get a faster hinge as my previous setup would cause to much of a float load with arm runoff to increase constistency. i do make sure that my shoulders are set square. any ideas as to what could cause the instant inconsistency?

attached are a couple of vids since the change. i do know that my swing plane is a little flat on backswing. sorry that one of the videos is sideways!!!!

THanks!!!!

So you are saying you made a change because you wanted more consistency and now you are inconsistent? Why don't you go back to where you were before? I don't think setup=arm runoff. Overpowering the backswing is what causes that issue. Sounds to me like you tried something and it didn't work.
You know how to swing a club-maybe a little long with the arms. The only thing out of place to me from setup perspective is your feet are very close together.
If the cupped wrist setup led to divots YOU like why not go back to it?
Self diagnosis is difficult and can be done but sometimes you have to recognize when your own ideas of cause and effect may be incorrect and know when to reevaluate. The ballflight never lies.

Grahler,

i am trying this so i could possibly get a little faster hinge hoping this would shorten my backswing a little to be more constistent and keep the club in front of my body... the club tends to get stuck behind me. i know i have a little early extension but i am convinced its because of a long backswing and club getting behind me to much. Should i go back to the cup wrist and work on my pivot???

I think I would go back to your 'natural' address position with the hands. I should think working on shortening your backswing would help with stuckiness. When your shoulder hits under the chin there the hands should not run on. The club requires VERY VERY little power on the backswing-the more energy you put into it going back the tougher it is to avoid arm overtravel because the weight of the club gets momentum and when you stop the hands they will keep going without you moving them because of the weight of the club. Let the club swing back with barely enough power to just stop where you want it-then you will not overtravel.
Basically you look like a smooth player.
If you get the armswing a bit shorter and you are still inconsistent I would stand with your feet wider for more stability but thats a personal preference deal.

Can't really tell too much as the camera is miles away in the caddyview....with that said your knees are knocked in WAY too much. They are almost touching at address and again they almost touch at impact. Try getting your knee caps over the center of your feet. With your left knee kicking in too much on the downswing, as shown in the video, it will restrict the hips from opening and they will sag in the downswing to give you "room" to hit the ball. This also affects the torso, as the hips sag into impact it throws the torso back and the only way to get out of the way, is in to out. This in to out move, is why you are experiencing inconsistency, you are a flipper as a result of the in to out swing path. Flippers have divots that don't match shot shape because the face angle is all over the board, I know from being a flipper prior to a swing change. Your swing is not flat like you think it is, from what I can see on the DTL view (when I turn my computer on it's side)

Good action though even if it's on the wrong side! Keep at it and don't take my criticism as an insult, we are all just trying to get better! :friends:

My advice, for what it's worth is:

1) Knees over the balls of your feet, try putting a beach ball or basket for range balls in between your thighs to give you a sensation of "riding the bull"
2) Try this drill that Vijay is shown doing in this picture. The concept is to put an alignment stick (Vijay chose an umbrella....not advisable) in the ground on the intended starting line. Try to start it right of the stick, Vijay is shown starting it left, but he's working on the same thing as his hips collapse due to an overly active right side (for a righty) in the downswing. You will cover the ball better, if you practice this way, also focusing on the knees staying out and not so in.

I see not enough shoulder turn or hip turn. You look to be much more flexible than your swing shows so you are restricting the lower body to much and in doing so your shoulders do not fully turn. A full shoulder turn should put everything together

The bottom video is to tough to make out sideways

Plenty of shoulder turn at least 90* even with a restricted hip turn. Hip turn is restricted due to the position of his left knee. :beruo:
