The distance issue

Recommended Posts

Carlo, my distances are very similar to yours with every club except maybe 5-10 yds more with the Driver.

My SS with driver is about 93 MPH average. Much smoother with irons, in fact I usually club up and work on good solid contact to try and get pin-high as often as possible.

My question to you guys with these distances. What kind of HC do you usually play too and what yardages (set of tees) do you choose when you play a course? I am 46 years young @ 5'9" close to 180 lbs.

I generally try to choose tees that play between 6000-6300 yds. Anything further would just be too much of a struggle and no enjoyment. At those yardages I can play to a 4-5 HCP. (Typically shoot 75-78).

Driver: 220-230

3-wood: 185-190

3-iron: 170-180

4-iron: 160-170

5-iron: 150-160

6-iron: 140-150

7-iron: 130-140

8-iron: 120-130

9-iron: 110-120

PW: 95-105

GW: 75-85

SW: 55-65

Yes, unfortunately all the courses here are very long (over 7000 yards) and that is the reason why course management is very important for me with my average distance! Moreover the courses here are full of trees all around and the fairways narrow and OB is easy with the driver... That is why I am still a 22 handicap :D

unless you are 3 putting every green, I'm sorry but no 22 handicapper should be playing tees at 7000 yards plus. Play the whites

Since I've been working out...losing weight, gaining more muscle. I've added to my distances. I've also had a few lessons thrown in there to gain more accuracy and consistancy also...I had a tendency to slice my shots therein losing distance...now if I'm not careful I'll hook 'em, but 8x out of 10, I'm in the fairway now.

Well, now you can actually compete with a bunch of guys here! Good distances... Who says that women (Michelle Wie) cannot compete with men??

Yes, now I don't feel like I'm holding the guys up too much with my play. I'm a 25 handicap so I have a lot of work to do, but at least when I'm out there, I know I can play with them and not feel so bad. It's hard to find women my age who play on a regular basis. I'm always heading to the course as a single and paired up with guys so I have to work extra hard knowing I know I might get the occasional grumpy gus who doesn't want to play with a girl.

That is with the whites! The courses (at least the reachable ones) are long here. And yes some day I really have problems with my putter (like 3 of 4 putts to get in the hole) because the greens are so sloping down every where and fast like a Ferrari!!! As I said on these courses (the 2 I can play) I have no choice!

I play often with a girl that can reach 240 Yards with her driver and she is just 5 feet tall and weight less than 90 pounds... She is a +5 handicap and it is a pleasure to play match play with her (as in match play only, I have chances to win some holes)... Guys that refuse to play with girls are only scared to loose with them. To me, I don't mind... !!

One of the more realistic and consistent yardage! I like the 4 & 7 woods combination!

I just changed my clubs around (again) a month ago and still getting used to the distances. This is what I have found so far, also the distances are just carry, and are avg. I will have the once a round bomb of 250+ but that's definately not avg for me.

I've only been playing since March, but I really feel like I've made significant progress in a short time. I know eventually it will slow down, unless I get some lessons. So, I'm 5'10"-11", 150lbs. I have a rather informal HC of 22 (mostly owing to undeveloped ball striking abilities) and my driver SS probably averages 95. These are what I use for distances.

D: 230-250 (with the once-a-round 270-280)

3W: 215-225

5W: 195-210

23*: 185

5i: 165

6i: 155

7i: 145

8i: 135

9i: 120

pw: 105

50*: 95

54*: 60-85

60* dunno, close
