I Love This Place - But look what you made me do!

I have been reading other people's post for forever. I finally joined, but continued to lurk. This is my first post. Can't decide whether I love golf or golf equipment. I know I like equipment that I'm probably not good enough to play yet. Just kidding. I love golf, but I don't like game improvement features in equipment. I try to purchace drivers with square faces and irons with minimum offset. I live in Washington, DC. I have taken two sets of lessons. I hit irons better than woods, and I have never been fitted or visited a launch monitor. I hit my irons what I believe to be average distance (150 8 iron). I can drive greens on short par 4s. I don't have a handicap, but I average between 99 and 105 with my "old school set" (last set listed). I love reading equipment reviews, and base my purchace decisions on reviews read, mostly here. Look what you have made me do!!!

 

I can play boogy or better golf (usually for the first 6 holes on the front nine, and the first 6 holes on the back nine). Then I have my "blow-up holes" (8s or worse) for the final 3 holes of each nine.

 

I want to play better, so what should be my next steps???

You, me and 3.6 million other golfers have the same problem. No one can admit that it is their swing that's the problem and not their equipment, including me. You can easily drop your score by just playing clubs that fit your game and not trying to fit your game to your clubs. Golf is supposed to be fun why not play clubs that make it that way? I know you are right. I finally believe that I have dveloped a repeatable swing. I can keep my drives in play for an entire round now. I usually only mishit only 2 or 3 tee shots. I "pure" 4 to 5 iron approach shots a round, and then I am usually online, but a club or more long. I purchased Callaways and PINGs because of their customer service (I can get them adjusted, once I know my specs).

 

What should my next step be? Lessons or fitting??
