Iomic Belly putter grips

Im converting a putter to a belly and wanted to put an iomic unite on it, but It is only 17", and i was looking for something a little longer. Have they made a longer grip in the past or will they ever in the future?

You might want to do some checking around. There's a thread out there about a number of people noticing faster than normal wear on the end cap of their Iomic putter grips.

I'm one of them - while I'm pretty good about changing the grips on my clubs it takes a lot to get me to do it with a putter grip, and this is the first time I've ever had a putter grip 'wear out' on me. I don't care a lot as I really like the grip on the part that I actually use, but I might if it were in my belly.

One person speculated that it might be from people leaning on the grip (think Payne Stewart pose), which makes a lot of sense.

I have a lot of putters with Iomic grips and never had a problem with one of them, neither one of my friends.

The end cap has worn off of 2 of my iomic putter grips .. Never bothered me much but I have certainly noticed it .. As far as the belly grip they only offer that one type

I just put one on my Scotty Kombi belly. I didn't realize the Iomic belly grip is actually a three piece grip. It took a little while to get it right, but I love it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Bumping up this thread with some questions, and a few comments as well.

1. Does anyone know how thick the belly putter grip is? Is it most similar to the Iomic standard grip in the regular, midsized or large? I hated the regular size as it was very small to me, but the large is great. If the belly grip is similar to the "large" i'd put it in play.

2. I noticed wear on my belly putter end cap (Winn, not Iomic) and have a few theories. First, you are jamming it into your gut when you putt so the end will get worn eventually. Second, when you put a belly or long putter in your bag the butt will likely contact the bottom because it is one on of the longer clubs in the bag. In contrast, a traditional putter is one of the shorter clubs in the bag, thus making it less likely the butt will contact the bottom of the bag and get worn. That's my thought.

3. To the poster above, I noticed the Iomic belly looked like it was in pieces in photos I have seen. In these pictures I noticed the gap between color sections. When you put the grip on is there still a small gap or do the sections fit flush?

To the OP, maybe you have tried the 17" and have specific reason for not liking it I am missing? But for me, a 21" looked super long on a 43" belly and the 17" seemed just right. With the 21" literally half the shaft is covered by grip. You must grip it pretty far down the shaft?

The Unite grip stays flush when it is installed and I would say that the grip is closer to the large sized Iomic Putter grip. However, the grip is a little slimmer and lighter than say a winn belly putter grip of the same length. You will notice a increase in head weight with the Iomic as compared to the Winn. I had no problem with the end of the grip or any other part of the grip and I have had it on for eight months. Hope this answers a few of your questions.

I had an iomic wear thru on the end, the reason is simple .. not enough tape on the end of the shaft before grip install

I assumed the other posters were talking about wear on the outside, not the shaft coming through the butt end? Obviously, as you say, that problem is easily avoidable with proper grip tape installation.

I've used the Iomic belly for a while now and it's daBomb!! I wish they would update the colors however, kinda boring...BB

Just put a little extra tape on the top of your putter when you regrip it and it won't wear down. I do this on mine and it works like a charm.
