Golf courses near Ohio State University

Hey Guys,

My Dad and I are going to the Ohio State Penn State game (live in MD, PSU fans). Just saw the game is a 3:30 start so I figured we could try and get a round of golf in before going to the game. (one of my lifetime goals is to golf in all 50 US states, currently at 13). Below is a list of courses we're looking at, we would greatly appreciate any comments, suggestions, or recommendations about these or other courses near OSU.

So far we're looking at:

New Albany Links, 22miles from the stadium and $39/person including carts

The Phoenix Golf Links 10 miles from stadium and $38/person incl

Champions Golf Club 7 miles from the stadium $27/person including carts

Wherever you play, don't consider Champions as it can be slooooooooooooooooooow, especially on weekends. All other choices on this list are fine.

Raymond Memorial GC, less than 5 miles from stadium. $22.50.

thanks for the reply, Do you think the difference in quality between Phoenix and Raymond Memorial is worth the price difference?

I haven't played these courses in a couple years, but I really liked New Albany Links. That's a fun course. And Phoenix is kind of different. It's built on an old landfill so you're kind of playing up, down, and around the giant mound the whole day. But it's fun, too. We've always been treated really well at Phoenix.

This is way OT but I just noticed your username is LL Umpire...do you ump little league too? :friends:

Can't help you out on any of those courses...never been to any of them. But I can say I've heard good things about Champions GC.

New Albany Links is a real quality course and although its 22 miles, the entire trip from the course to OSU campus is highway, so it wouldn't take you long to get there. Are you planning on tailgating prior to kickoff, or does it matter if you get there right away or not?

I actually live nearby, and golf in Columbus routinely. Check golfnow for tee times for New Albany Links, Cumberland Trail, which is also a very solid course in the area. If you are wanting an experience on an excellent course, you can always see if tee times are available at Longaberger. It is approx an hour from OSU, again mostly highway driving, but its the nicest public course in the area, and I think they just reduced their greens fees for the season. Last suggestion is Winding Hollow, which is in same area as New Albany Links. Its a classic, old style course. Lots of trees, great layout, lots of trouble, but fun.
