Anyone used it on a 9* head and increased loft?

Hi,

Would like to hear from anyone who has used the clock ferrule to increase the loft of a 9* head, or used it to increase the loft on any head, thinking of getting a G15 9* and increasing the loft.

Currently play a Rapture V2 10.5, Proforce V2, with swing changes its starting to spin a bit much. I hit a lowish ball, so a straight 9* I think would be too low.

I figure it would make it lower spin than the Rapture and have a similar launch. For those who have done it, am I right?

Also I'm guessing the clock ferrule would leave a lot of spare room in sections of the hosel, do people just fill that with epoxy or is there another trick?

(I know I need a 335 shaft)

the g15 should spin more than the rapture v2. even though you would be using a 9* head that effectively plays at 10.5* will still play like a stock 10.5* g15 so nothing would be gained. i would change shafts from the v2 to something high launch low spin. i found the v2 shaft is a mid-low launch with mid spin, kind of sends out a low spinner

I thought if you reduce loft in a club you increase spin because the COG is moved higher, the opposite when you increase loft, the COG moves lower causing a higher launch and low spin?

Would like to know by how much of a change, if it's negligible or if it will help.

I don't get on well with high launch shafts, that's why I'm thinking of doing this.

Changing loft won't change the CG enough to effect ball flight. And loft is more significant to ball flight than the shaft.

I say give the clocking ferule a try. Cheap experiment.

I recently clocked a 14* Ping I15 three wood and am very happy with the results.

Note that changing the loft DOES affect the face angle (If I'm not mistaken, making it stronger opens the face and vice-versa).

Did you clock it to increase loft? Did you notice much of a difference in flight and spin?

I've seen the Titleist chart that says when you increase loft you close the face angle. I get that if you put the sole of the club on the ground it will be closed, but if I hover the club off the ground wont it be square and the closing or opening of the face angle will be irrelevant?

Actually I had it strengthened and gained yardage (dropped it a hair over a degree). Spin and launch were predictably affected. For some reason, the 14 wasn't going as far as I wanted (only about 10 yards more than my 5 wood which wasn't enough). Now it's equal in length to my old 13* Callaway and fills the correct distance gap.

Your second statement (hovering vs soling the club) is a bit confusing to me. It is quite possible to hover the club in the same position as it is when soled, giving it the same face angle. Likewise, it's possible to hold the club and hover at pretty much any face angle (open, square, closed) within reason. For me, I now tend to be more conscious of the face angle (open/closed) when setting up since it certainly plays more open to me.

The Titelist clubs use a proprietary clocking device, which shouldn't be confused with a clocking ferrule. You can tweak the loft with a Billy Bob ferrule and it won't effect the face angle.

The Titleist chart is correct. And if you hover it, then you won't see the change in face angle. When using a Billy Bob or FCT or Titleist system to adjust loft you WILL adjust face angle. Closed will add loft and open will reduce loft.

Titleist's system allows you to adjust Loft and lie separately. Not loft and face angle separately.
