Anyone from Atlanta?

I was gonna be staying downtown this weekend and just wanted to know how safe it is close to the convention center? Any different after dusk? I've heard a number of people say different things about how bad it can be and was just wondering if anyone can help me out.

I haven't been back to Atlanta in a few years. I asked a buddy who was their recently. The downtown area still a sketchy at night. Buckhead and north area are great after hours.

Jeff, I was born and raised in south Ga. and I wouldn't touch Hotlanta with a 10 foot pole. If you go, make sure your state and Ga. have reciprocating concealed carry laws! This should explain Atlanta. Simp

I'm from Atlanta and live in Atlanta. Although things were bad in the past, things here are much better now. 10 years ago, I couldn't imagine living in town. Now, I'm 2 miles east of downtown in a great neighborhood. Put it this way, i.e. in real estate, 10 years ago houses in my neighborhood went anywhere from 15-50k, now you can't get a house here for less than 250k.

 

What convention center are you going to? The Georgia World Congress Center?

The one down by the Georgia Aquarium which I think is the GWCC.

Gotta love it when people spread things like this like it is peanut butter on wheat bread...

 

Atlanta is not a bad city, I work in Atlanta, do business in Atlanta and I lived less than 2 miles from Braves stadium.

Are there problems here (unemployment, crime, social distrust...)? yes, see statement above.

East Atlanta, Inman Park, SummerHill, downtown, midtown are all areas that have great restaurants, nightspots, people and interesting things to do (art galleries, shopping, etc...).

 

They have opened 8 nightspots in the underground, one of which is an Irish pub...and that pub has been there for a few years.

Are there plenty of homeless that are gonna nickle and dime you to death? yep, but that happens in Manhattan, Buckhead, Oak Park Ill, Las Vegas, Dallas Metroplex, Charlotte, Greenwich CT, etc...
