Florida Golf - Coral Springs, Hollywood, Lauderdale Aread

Need advice on public courses

Hey guys, I am planning a trip down to Florida in a few weeks and wanted some advice on golf courses to play. We are going to play four rounds of golf and one of those rounds will be at Heron Bay (we are staying at that hotel).

Can you guys give me a few other options. I checked out a bunch of courses online, but you can never get the full picture of how these courses are.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale for a number of years ... a few of my favorites:

If you like a bit of history ... try Inverrary ... (remember the 70's and 80's? ... the Jackie Gleason Classic, The Inverrary Classic, The Honda Classic, the 1976 Tournament Players Championship ... all played on the east course here). Course is (IMO) a little old and worn ... but still lovely to play. And all of 15 or 20 minutes from Fort Lauderdale. And it goes without saying that if you have the desire ... Doral is about a 40-50 minute drive from Fort Lauderdale ... (IMO, it is kind of dull and overpriced ... but still ... it's Doral).

Three letters....

PGA

It is an amazing track and, since you will be in the area, it is worth paying a visit. Yes it is a little more costly than some but it is the home of the PGA.

Thanks for the advice. We are looking into Doral, but I think that is a little further down on our list. I will take a look at the ones you guys mentioned. Jacaranda was a course that come up several times in my search, so I will take a bit of a look at that. Now I am going to have too many courses and not enough days. May need to extend the stay down in FL!

The problem with just visitng Florida ...

I lived in the center of Ft. Lauderdale ... and there were probably over two dozen courses within an hour's drive. It is an embaressment of riches ...

(I did try to recomend the memorable ones to you ... but there's a dozen more that really are worth playing ...).

Note also ... get ready for serious Bermuda ... if you are a northeast golfer ... you're going to (on average) find rough that is somewhat shorter, but much thicker than you are used to playing ...

No doubt about the Bermuda. We make this trip almost every January, but this year I wanted to play a few new courses. So far I have a tee time at Bonaventure and I am looking at a time at either Jacaranda or Emerald Hills.

Emerald Hills is a fantastic track down here. Great greens and a nice course all around. I would also look into Plantation Preserve another solid track. Heron and Bonaventure are good choices. You can't go wrong with that foursome.
