hitting on the heel

I was hitting the driver on the range and have noticed that I was not getting the usual distance so i put impact tape on the head to insure i was hitting the sweet spot and i was not close. I staedy landed on the heel side no mater what i done and that was consistant. the only way i made it to the center was to set up with my ball outside of the club. I would then some times hit the sweet spot but even then some times on the heel. I never hit it on the toe. With out seeing my swing what do i need to do to move it closer to the center.

You may need to keep your head down longer. If you are raising up then you will impact the heel every time.

A general rule when something goes wrong and isn't just a bad swing once in a while is to check your setup. I can't tell you how many times I've thought I was doing something wrong in my swing and I was actually standing too far/close to the ball. Once you do this, move on to the swing fixes which are much more complicated.

 

And BTW, keeping your head down is another way to say keep your spine angle consistent throughout the swing (in this case, don't come up on the downswing), and I'm hoping this was obvious, but wanted to make sure because actually keeping your head down can make it bad for you if you take it too literally.

...also, your left arm could be separating a lot on the downswing from your chest -- due to centrifugal force -- causing the heel to hit the ball.

 

Or you could be swawing ahead thru impact -- not turning. These are two things that cause me the same issues.
