Winter Project

So after a month straight of warm winter temperatures, there was another cold snap, effectively crushing my hopes of an early golf season. Out of pure desperation, I started a new project.

I had a Studio Select Newport 2 with a Caswell finish that I love, but never really played. I decided to turn it into a belly putter.

I started by extending the shaft from 34" to 41". I threw on a Iomic belly grip I pulled a while back and wanted to see how it looked (obviously weight is off). It looked good from address, so I pulled the head so I could re do the paint and put a tip weight in the putter shaft. The putter head started at 350g (2 x 15 g head weights), and after a 10g weight in the shaft, its up to 360 g. I will add lead tape for the time being, and will likely spring for some aftermarket 30 g weights to get the weight up to 390 g at some point.

Anyway, I thought I'd share with you guys what I've done so far. Keep in mind this is my first paint fill project, and I took pictures before I did the white paint fill on the "cameron" on the face. Enjoy the pics!

whats the weight? I know the SS is pretty light even with the 20g weights.

never weighed it out. Just assumed it would be 350 with the 15 g weights? Any thoughts?

Did you adjust the lie angle to compensate for the added length?

It will need to be adjusted. I am still trying to decide whether it is worth turning it into a belly, or if i should take it take to 34"

The lie angle on a belly putter can be the same as a short putter so you may not need to make any adjustments the weight on the other hand IMO needs to be atleast 375g's and that's even considered light as most production belly's are 400g plus.

I did try a Seemore belly (blade style) at the shop for weight and it was 375 g which felt a bit on the light end, but manageable. Personally, if I could get it 385-390g with lead tape, at least to try, I'd be happy.

Again, if I like the putter, i'll no doubt spring for the scotty after market weights to get it up to 400g

If you have access to a wrench tool, you could pull the weights, put tungsten powder in the cavity of the weight, and screw the weight back in. Brings up the headweight and doesn't mess up the looks.
