New season, similar problems....3 months later etc, etc

Recommended Posts

So the 2012 season is upon us, with only a couple of months to go until the business really starts. So I thought it might be time to post my starting point for my 2012 swing.

I'm back to hitting blocks which is never a good thing, and while I only recorded a decent 9 iron approach, I should probably point out that 90% of my iron shots have divots the size of a 16oz steak, most of which are fat.

Also, I feel like I'm getting really trapped with my Driver & 3 Wood

PS: On first viewing I thought my early extension had increased again, but the camera was moving a good bit. I put a reference line on a tree in the background to check and it's not as bad as I first thought.

Short irons require a steeper approach, which is in turn facilitated by more weight on your left foot at address or a slightly more bent over posture to the ball with the arms hanging a little more vertically.
You do have a little posture loss at impact but not much.Your rotation is fine at impact with your right elbow on your right hip.You do get the club shaft a little too far behind you going back ,but this may not be the case with better setup angles and weight distribution

Cheers dude, thought I looked a little upright. That's what I get for not picking up a club in Nov or Dec I suppose

It's absolutely pouring down outside here, at least I can work on posture and wrist set inside

How about a face on video and one from 45 degrees to your front left to check downswing rotation and one from the back to check setup angles.

No probs dude, I'll get them up in the next couple of days. I would guess my setup angles are very similar to the 3 wood vids I put up last year though. Address is not usually something that I consciously change as I was always told it was pretty good.

That driver swing is an absolute mess though, definately need to get it sorted out before the season starts

Well that plan didn't come to fruit, if anything my driving is worse than it's ever been. I can't even draw a 3 wood anymore.....

On the plus side, my iron play is excellent, no more fat shots, just good strikes and high draws. Back to the problem though.

This is a couple of shots I hit earlier. One driver that was a massive block slice, and a 3 wood that was pull slice. I'm as consistent as the length of a piece of string off the tee, and it's leading to me throwing away a couple of shots per hole.

Low handicap + throwing away 2 shots per hole = Not a low handicap for much longer...

With my limited knowledge of ball flight and what it indicates, I hit another 3 wood off the next tee, with the sole thought to throw the head down the line and get a more inside-out path through the impact area.....which also led to an uncontrollable slice.

I obviously don't have much hair left, but I'm tearing what little I have out after every tee shot. Anyone notice anything extraordinarily stupid that I'm doing?

P.S. Russ, if you're reading this, I know you wanted FO, Rear and 3/4 views a while back. I promise I'll go and take some tomorrow, even if it's chucking it down

Never mind, I see it. Horrendous movement towards the ball in the backswing leading to early extension and getting trapped......:o

Anything else that anyone sees though, feel free to chip in

EDIT: Just noticed something else with my shoulders after watching one of Monte's videos.......another long rebuild begins
