Didnt get a chance to play today but I did hit the range. I remember reading something about Tiger's practice when he was young. He said he had a problem turning his hands over at impact, so he went to the range and hit balls until his forearms were bruised from the rotation.

 

I decide I would try it today. 4 hours later I was hitting a slight draw and added at least 10 yards to every club. :(

 

I am gonna go back at least 3 times before next wednesday when I can play again. I couldnt believe how much of a difference it made. I was hitting dead into the trades but it was boring through the wind. I have never hit a ball like that.

 

Now dont get me wrong, I dont hit a 7 iron 180 but at least I hit it around 155 now. Instead of my usual 135. :(

Good for you! Glad you found a drill that works for you. Kinda nice hitting a little draw, huh?

 

A few years ago, I used to hit the ball almost dead straight or with just a 1 or 2 yard fade (no wind). While there was nothing wrong with that ball flight, I always thought that draw was cool and I wanted the extra distance with my driver. So I embarked on a journey to learn to hit a draw. Long story short, I learned to hit the draw, but now I can't hit it straight! :( I can hit draws, hooks, slices, and fades, but the straight ball that I once owned is very hard to come by. Kinda wished, I never tried it, but it's too late to go back now. Still, I like playing a draw a lot better than the ugly slice that I had when I first learned to play golf.

 

Well fellas, I am off to the valley of the sun for a week or so, to play golf ;) and hang out in the Indian Casinos ;) . Wish me luck! 'Cause I am sure I will need it! :(

Congrats on finding a drill Stu, just don't let the draw turn into a hook. Cause that sucks a lot. But a reliable draw with an iron is beautiful to watch.

 

 

Tony, good luck at the casinos. That sounds like a lot of fun, I've never played golf in the mainland either. Are you planning on taking your 'A' bag with you? I was pretty paranoid when I took my clubs to Kauai to play, can't imagine how I'd be going to the mainland with 'em.

Tony, good luck at the casinos. That sounds like a lot of fun, I've never played golf in the mainland either. Are you planning on taking your 'A' bag with you? I was pretty paranoid when I took my clubs to Kauai to play, can't imagine how I'd be going to the mainland with 'em.

Yes, I will be taking the "A" set with me. I have taken my clubs to the mainland and even to other countries before and I have not had a problem yet (knock on wood) :( . I use a hard travel case with a locking cover, so I am not too worried about damage unless they get run over by a truck or something. I used to take a back-up set instead, but I always felt that I didn't play my best because my back-up clubs are a little different from my gamers. I just got tired of that nagging doubt in the back of my mind. I am not good enough to grab a rental set and shoot 74. Although I have a few friends that can do that, even after not playing or practicing for 4 or 5 months. How disgusting. :(

Yeah! What do you know about golf? ;) As for the power fade, I am working on it. It is now my "go to" shot off the tee on tight driving holes.

He was hitting his second shot with a tree in front of him. He said to me that he was going to hit it. Me being the voice of confidence told him to aim left and you'll miss it. Damned if he didn't hit it square in the middle from about twenty yards away. Darn ball must have ricocheted about thirty yards behind him! ;)

I forgot about that. To commemorate the shot..I stuck a tee in the ball mark about 8' high in the tree. everytime we played, I'd drive to check if the tee was there. :(

Damn.....that one was what I call a classic "Russ". I don't know how many markers I've gave him. The guy carries around a five pound fanny pack full with change but no matter what, never has a marker on the course when he needs one.

 

This one hole he goes up to his ball and ask me, "Do you want me to move it left or right?". I tell him it's fine right there. He goes, "Good!" and proceeds to bend down and mark his ball. He picks up his ball and I see a little chunk of hard packed dirt. Could have been a piece of earthworm crap! I told him.."What the hell is that??!!". He goes, "Mud..I forgot to grab a marker...go ahead, you won't hit it." :(

What??? No comments about the Warriors? Okay...I'll start it. 61-17 over La Tech. I don't know about you guys...but beating teams by over 50 points a game the last three games is starting to worry me. I hope this continues but I think the going's not going to be too easy meeting up with Oregon State and Purdue. I also think Dick Tomey will have San Jose more then ready for them next week too. Boise was lucky to get away with a win over San Jose this past weekend.
