£1000 unused Hogan 1982 Medalion set

Just looking around ebay and found these, 1982 medalion sunburst irons and woods, and bag, all un used. Does look good but £1000 does seem a bit steep to me

start bid prices are what the seller HOPES he can get...if no one bites they will usually lower the start bid price..

this is standard practice in normal auctions and i believe they just follow the practice on ebay..

Hmm......I remember the Medallions, very nice clubs, probably 2nd or 3rd line for Hogan in 1982, the top line were the Apex II irons. I'm pretty certain that the Medallions retailed at the time for around £130 less than the Apex II's. Also, the woods, although nice, are laminated maple, not solid Persimmon. The bag brings back memories......."leather-look" vinyl mine was.......I had one of those as a carry-bag for when trollies were banned, as I didn't fancy carrying the huge red/white/blue staff bag! Soooo............. £999? Don't think so.......the seller may want to re-think his starting bid level somewhat, in a severly downwards direction!

Agreed. Nice clubs but not THAT nice. If he started them at £9.99 then he might get some action!!

I've got the equipment issue of Golf World magazine from April 1979 (cover price 55p !!!). This is what Hogan had available (and prices) in the UK.

So at that time 9 brand new Medallion irons would be at best 9x £26.00, and the woods 3x £33 so £333 for the lot.

£333 of 1979 money is worth £1,313 up to 2010, according to the Bank of England's online inflation calculator, which has inflation averaging at 4.5% per year. He says he got them in 1982, which would be £919 in 2010 (assuming the same list price in 1982) at average inflation 1982-2010 of 3.6%.

I still think he's priced this 50% too high though !
