Battery and Data Usage Questions

Questions for you guys from a rookie at the Smartphone GPS World... Ditched my UproMX during the recall, using Bushnell rangefinder, but miss the GPS option... Can anyone answers some/all questions below???

1. Does running Golfshots or other apps go against your data usage??
2. Is battery life a real problem? 27 holes out of the question on one charge with standard batteries?

Ready for an upgrade with Verizon, thinking Android for 4G...

4. Will standard battery on most phones like the Rezound, Razr, Nexus work for a round or more with these apps, or will the battery die?
5. Is the extended battery option a pre-requisite to get usable life for these apps?
6. Razr Maxx just came out, with it's extended battery, 2x most standard phones, is this a validate answer to the battery issues if there are issues?

2 -6 I have a HTC Sensation and I use an app called Juice defender and I set my screen on time to 15 seconds(all you need)and I turn the brightness to about 25% and I use at the very most 30% of my battery

Razr Maxx is a very nice phone with terrific battery life just not for me because I am a tinkerer and Moto locks the bootloader these days

yes Macklessdaddy is right Juicedefender is awesome.I use it.I,ve found that Igolf app is great hasn,t treated me badly yet.love the built in scorecard and the choice to shoot ur swing video as well

I've just upgraded my phone and picked the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. Like all LTE devices, battery life is pretty bad, but I was out playing 27+ holes the other weekend and I still had some juice left at the end of the day. One option to save some battery life on a LTE device is to go down to CDMA while you're out on the golf course, that way you don't use the 4G network and thereby safe you some battery life.

One thing that I've noticed on my Nexus running Android 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) is that golfshot hasn't been optimized for that OS yet, so it's dropping the last digit on the layup yardage etc. This can be a bit annoying, but they are saying an update is coming...

I have an iPhone 4 so this may not apply. I use the Skydroid app. It's simple but accurate and uses very little battery. My phone automatically goes into save mode in less than a minute of inactivity; I just swipe it and the app pops back up. I have an unlimited package so I can't say what the usage is, although I suspect it's not bad. I use less than 20% all day long, although I don't use it non-stop. I also have the iGolf neo which is a great, but simple little device.

I also use SkyDroid on my iPhone. Used it on a recent trip to Naples, FL and compared it to my friend's SkyCaddie. We were within a few yards on every course we played. For $1.99 its totally worth the price.

As I said in the other thread, GoflLogix uses about 6 megs of data a round. My iphone 4 used about 25 percent of its battery, my partner's Nexus used about 30.

Guys just a word of warning about downloading GPS apps onto a smartphone or iphone. It is illegal to use a smartphone or iphone in competitions. Rule14.3.
This is regardless of whether you have other applications turned off. Reason being is that on some phones like an Iphone you cannot delete the generic weather app or the compass app. so even if you deleted all your other apps(which of course would be crazy) the iphone is still illegal in competitions.
Sure if you are just playing socially then whatever!.
In competitions a phone can only be used as a phone.
