ISO: Sarasota course recommendation

Taking a vacation first of April to the area and having a really touch time finding any recs on a Sarasota area course that would take an open tee-time.

Anyone with local/recent experience in the area?

We are looking for something in nice condition, well manicured, 18+ public (or we would pay a member for a tee spot on a private/semi); 5-6 cappers

Any info anyone has for this forum newbie would be more than appreciated.

May want to look at the Bobby Jones Club, They have two 18 hole
tracks. The American and my favorite, the British, A Donald Ross
designed course. Go to EZLinks.com to get a pre payed tee time
at a good discount, You are still in season in Florida, need discounts
because of higher playing prices. Good Luck and enjoy !!!

Cost is really no factor for this trip, would much rather pay 75-100$ per round to play something in really nice condition as we are only going to be able to get 1 or 2 rounds in during the trip.

I had heard Legacy has gone downhill in their upkeep as of recent, any idea on this?

University course has come recommended by a few, looks like a nice 27 holer

Personally, I prefer the design of Legacy at Lakewood Ranch way more than either University Park or Waterlefe.

I don't think I really like the total open and enormous look of Waterlefe, maybe its not as it appears on their site pictures?

Stoneybrook, Legacy, and University have all been mentioned a couple times in various threads, anyone have a brief course synopsis for any of these?

TPC would be amazing but I'm sure its highly exclusive

+1 for Legacy. We play it almost every year we are there.

If you are up for a little drive, I'd check out in Riverwood in Port Charlotte. It's a 4.5 out of 5 star track.

River Strand is my favorite track when I'm in Sarasota, 3 totally different nines. I also like to play Legacy and University, all 3 have always been in great shape. I liked Waterlefe but prefer the three listed above.

I have narrowed the choices down to University, River Strand, and Legacy.....could any locals or people with recent experience on any of the three courses give a small breakdown on current conditions or layouts (trees, open, etc)? I was attempting to research this through the course websites, but many of them are very vague and leave much to the imagination.

Anyone have access to the TPC course in the area or any other semi-priv/privates worth recommending that a group of 2 low cappers could get a time on? Price is no issue, loooking to wow the brother in law since he feels manhatten golf is far superior :laugh:
