Playing the player course at lyman on thursday...Anyone know how it is?
I played it on Feb 1st and it still had the remnants of punch marks from last fall, and in general the greens were just furry. It's what you'd expect at this time of year I suppose.

I've played Cedar Knob in Somers, all winter and it's been good. However, there could still be some snow in the shade. I live a few miles due north in Springfield, MA and that's the case here. I expect it to be all gone by about Monday the 12th, though.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Played Shennecossett today and it was pretty alright. Temp tees on all par 3's but the greens were decent for early March. Fox Hopyard emailed me regarding their opening day, which is next week.

received that e-mail too; i'm sure conditions will be soft, but $50 off the regular rate is a good deal for the Hopyard. And awesome menu for the 19th hole. I'm sure I'll find my way over there.

They have a great chef there, excellent food.

I played Wintonbury Hills yesterday. It was $59 for 18 which surprised me based on the time of year. There was only one set of tees playing between their normal Greens and Whites. The greens were still bumpy from 2011 aeration, and were running really slow. The fairways, although dormant, were still in good shape. I would not pay $59 again for that condition.

$59 - for March conditions? That's just not right. But I bet the course was pretty busy nonetheless.

It looks like it's going to be low 60's on Thursday, and I hopefully will be able to get out somewhere. I wanted to start a thread where we can post information of the open courses, conditions, any temporary greens/tees, etc.

I know Tradition Wallingford, Lyman's Player, and Quarry Ridge are open.

Oak Lane is also open (and public now) and Great River is opening on Wednesday as well.

It was surprising. I think I had sticker shock as the 4 times I played their last year were through online deals and I never paid 60 bucks even during the peak season. It was pretty busy out there.

Thanks for the heads up on Wintonbury Hills. I'll be in Windsor Saturday night and looking to play something Sunday morning within a 30 minute drive. Any recommendations? I booked a tee time at Wintonbury Hills but their first tee time out is 9am. Would like something much earlier. If I play something not mentioned in this thread then I'll post back how the conditions were.

I just played at Gillette Ridge yesterday. The greens were slow and a bit bumpy, but the price point was around $40, riding. You may want to confirm that as I know all courses are constantly tinkering with the rates and the first day they start the in season pricing, especially with this weather. This was my first time at Gillette. It has some really nice holes, but the scenery is a bit odd, as you are weaving through an upscale housing development on the front, and then around a corporate campus on the back.

I know Topstone in South Windsor is open. I'm not sure about the condition there, but I just tested out the online booking and you may be able to get an 8:00 AM on Sunday. You'd want to confirm the pricing as well, as they just have in season rates online, but you may be able to do better.

Played Shenny last week and to be honest the fairways were in decent condition but the greens were pretty ehhh..Tried a little 6 hole place in Coventry RI called TIn CUP..Best greens I've played in over a year! Also played Pinecrest ( about 15 min over the CT border in Kingston RI). Tough little 9 hole course in the woods... beautiful, true rolling greens for $32 for $18

So far this year I've played Timberlin, Stanley, Quarry Ridge, Long Hill, Tunxis, and Laurel View. Laurel View was in the best shape of the bunch and a hell of a deal. $20 for 18 with a cart on golfnow you can't beat it.
Wow, that's a great deal. I'll have to check that out. I'm heading to Lake of Isles this weekend to take advantage of their BOGO deal.

Played quite a few rounds already this year:

Great River has a great deal $50 Wed and Thurs $60 weekends includes cart. Fairways are in great shape, tee boxes are satisfactory but the greens are atrocious right now. Punched, sandy and bumpy as all hell.

The Jones Course (Lyman) is also playing pretty well. Fairways in less than ideal shape and greens need to get more consistant but websites have very affordable tee times.

Playing TPC River Highlands Thursday morning and Tashua Friday. Any word on these two?

How was TPC. I'm supposed to play there in late April and then again in May. Tashua is a bit of a haul for me, haven't played there yet.
