2nd bucket of the season

guys,
I have never done anything like this before and thought I would see how it goes. I was talking with an old golfer former PGA teaching professional at my local range the other day (he's close to 80 years old). He hasn't taught professionally for probably the last 15 years.
Anyway he told me I was bringing the club too inside and told me to bring it back "more away from my body" The first three balls in the video are his "method" but it didn't feel natural. Notice the upside down bucket. He wanted me to bring the club head towards the bucket before I brought it back.
The last two balls are my typically "straight back" swing. All five balls were solid hits but I feel the outside shots were 5-10 yards longer.

Camera angle isn't proper for good critique. It's impossible to examine weather or not you're "on plane". You need the camera directly behind you. From the angle you're presenting it looks to me like you're trying to hit a cut 8 iron nearly every time.

Thanks Delman, it was my first time trying to use iphone wedged in the bag. I will try to get a better video another time.

i think you just misunderstood the advice. there's a big difference between having the club go straight back, and having your arms go straight back, and lifting out, up and away from your body.

what he probably saw, and even with the bad angle i can see a little of....is that in your normal swing, your turning your wrists back and getting the club behind you too early in the takeaway. the fix isn't to lift your arms out away from your body. it's just to keep the [i]clubhead [/i]outside your hands going back. hands/arms will more or less continue on the same path you had them on before. in fact i think even in the last 2 swings you lift your arms out and away from your body too much in the initial takeaway. think about from address just using your shoulders to get to the top, or at least halfway back. no movement in the wrists, no breakdown of the right arm until shoulders have rotated 90*

and fwiw, i'm positive 'early extension' is a far more important issue and more pressing to fix than your takeaway....which isn't that bad.

plenty of info on that subject. but in one sentence, your left butt needs to go deep behind you in the downswing....to at least the spot it was at address and preferably past it....right now your pelvis moves towards the ball so you have no room for your hands and you come over the top.
