some of us older members remember nirvana and just wondered if anybody did see them live,I only bring this up because I seen Alice in Chains open for Van Halen in 1991 it's sucks to lose two great song writers and vocalists from that era.I know it was a long time ago but you can hear Layne's pain in the songs he wrote in Mad Season.If you actually had a chance to see Kurt how was it?

"older members" c'mon, if you recall the Seattle grunge scene you can't be all that old. Anyway, I missed Nirvana live. Made it to a few Pearl Jam shows, one with Marylin Manson and the Henry Rollin's Band opening (weird mix of music). While the deaths of Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain are tragic, they left their mark on music. Now us old timers have great bands like the Foo Fighters and Audioslave to follow. One of the better Nirvana shows was the MTV Unplugged session. You could probably get it on DVD.

but then saw My Bloddy Valentine later that month (i think)

 

took me a week for my ears to straighten out lol

 

i used to go tonnes of shows back then and am a musician that lives now in NYC.

I saw them at the Reading Festival in Reading London summer 1992 and they just blew everyone away. Real magic those were the days...

 

Pick up the box set "With the lights out" for some great live recordings and other rare stuff.

I don't really like Nirvana. I am actually glad that Cobain did it, because it gave us the Foo Fighters.

Let me re-phrase that. I don't like Nirvana, I do like Foo Fighters. W/O Nirvana 'breaking up' Dave Grohl wouldn't have gone on to greatness on his own.

 

re-reading, I did not mean it was a good thing he killed himself, but the Foo Fighters were a silver lining to the tragedy.

No worries, I knew what you meant. But while FF is a solid band and Grohl is unquestionably an amazing talent, Nirvana (to me) was unique. They changed rock music forever with one song.

Let me just say that the Great One Zakk Wylde once said that Dave Grohl should stick to drums end of story!!

Zakk Wylde really dissed Dave Grohl. That sucks, no artist respect. Anyway, it must be tough being known as Randy Rhoads replacement. That said, I still want a set of EMG Zakk Wylde pick-ups for my Ibanez.
