Part time pro ready to play around with my swing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have been a member/lurker for quite sometime but never post. I am going to try to get a little more involved here as the other golf forum I usually post on has turned into a trainwreck lately.

I played professionally years ago and tinker a fair amount still. Anyway, just thought I would post a few swings and see if there are any revolutionary ideas out there.

I have worked with Geoff Jones, Haney, Randy Smith, Paul Marchand and most recently Chris Como. I hit it hard and try to fade 100% of my shots.

Thanks!

Tinkering for the sake of tinkering...or is there a particular issue or problem you are trying to fix.

Because I don't see much of anything wrong with that swing. In fact, if you don't want that swing, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.....:bb:

Seriously though, the only thing I would change at all is your pre-shot routine, and process of addressing the ball which seems a bit rigid and tense.

The swing it self appears to be very compact and very efficient.

1. not enough hip tilt at address
2.sway load going back on the left hip area
3 lateral movement of the head going back
4 not enough hip rotation going back.
4.insufficient setting of the wrists at the top.If you down cocked on the way down that would be a good alternative but you do not.
5 a large disconnect of the arms at impact.
6 loss of posture at impact

Thanks...the pre shot routine was actually to illustrate a point for the other forum I referred to. Some guys there asked me to show what my actual routine is so I showed a full routine. Aside form that, yes, tinkering for the sake of tinkering. I always like talking golf swing so why not start with mine. I do not teach, but I do work with a couple of juniors in Dallas more on mental stuff and putting but would like to expand into more swing theory. I am pretty fresh and have worked with great instructors but really would like to expand my knowledge.
Hip tilt which way? Like reverse K style setup?
I am not sure what #2 means, can you clarify?
I am and always have been extremely tight. I have tried yoga, many work out programs, and pilates and just can't get much flexibility. Are you saying that I shift laterally too much? I do think I have sufficient down **** on the way down, maybe the footage just doesn't show it. My driver clubhead speed is right at 118 and I usually hit my 6 iron about 190.

As for the disconnect and loss of posture at impact, that is something that I have been working on for year, obviously unsuccessfully. Do you have any direction how to pull off your suggestions?

Thanks!

I am a huge Slicefixer fan

A..Hip tilt way from the target about 6-8 degrees to align your lower and middle spines.Reverse k for wedges and short irons down to no reverse k for the driver and fairway woods and long irons. The steeper the shot required the more that you want to set up left .This hip tilt remains constant with all clubs although overall body titl will increase as your stance becomes wider and your weight favors your left foot less with longer clubs
B.Place your cursor on the outside of your left hip at address.watch your hip move laterally away from the target as you go back.Lateral motion at the hip changes your low point and your spine tilt, going back and increases the distance that you need to travel to establish your left pivot point over your left heel/ankle around which you can then rotate for the rest of the downswing
C. Lateral movement at the head often, but not always(reference Mr Ballards students) goes hand in hand with with the sway load at the hips.By moving your head laterally you force your eyes to recalibrate the distance to the ball, just making things more complicated. This lack of lateral motion going back is becoming more and more popular .S+t ,Slicefixer and Mr Foley among others, all very much discourage any lateral motion going back.

If your head remained stable i have a feeling that the sway load would go away as long as you just woundup around your tilted spine going back.Try this little trick.place a cigarette, colored straw or large wooden matchstick in your mouth .Use this as a visual reference to minimize lateral head motion going back.it is ok to rotate your head bit though
Your lack of hip rotation going back goes hand in hand with your arm disconnection at impact .If you turned your hips deeper on the backswing you would have more room for your arms /shaft going down, would have a shallower angle of approach and would be more likely to get your right elbow closer to your right hip at impact .

Reference Dan Whittaker youtube video "gothamgolf@ fix#7 @ 13:35 "depth of turn drill"

Damn russ that's pretty good stuff. Very good explanations. On the couch right now, but will tinker around a bit tomorrow and post results.

I really liked the 5 or 6 times I spent the day with SliceFixer. If he were just closer to Dallas i would have stuck with him as I really enjoyed his "passion". :)

Thanks!

Here is another Slicefixer drill to help with hip rotation going back
Place the back of a patio chair against your right butt at a 45 degree angle like this / . With the top of the page your target line and left side of the page your target.Going back, keep your right butt gently touching the back of the chair .Keep the same gentle pressure, no more no less, on the chair all the way back.
