Just Moved to Phoenix

Hey guys. I just moved to the Phoenix area from Denver about 5 weeks ago. I have been playing almost every weekend by myself (getting thrown in as a single), and was looking to meet up with some guys to start playing. I'm just getting tired of going at it alone. I'm not the best player (broke 90 for the 1st time ever a couple weeks ago), but I do have my moments of glory. I played with my roommates in Denver who were 5-7 handicaps. I enjoy playing with better golfers, but don't expect advice or lessons on the course. My spending limit right now for rounds is <$100 which should work out going into the summer. Unfortunately I can only play weekends, but like to be on the course before 8 (will play any time really). Let me know if any of you guys need a 4th. I appreciate it.

I'm in northeast Phx (close to Cave Creek), but work in Scottsdale. I usually play on weekends, but also run around for 9 after work on some Fridays. There is a decent executive course in Scottsdale for some good iron practice. Where about are you?

I've played Legend Trail, Superstition Springs, ASU Karsten, Mountain Shadows (didn't realize it was an exec course when I booked it). If you're in Old Scottsdale, you're about 10 minutes from where I work. Try and get out on Papago, that is a nice muni. They used to host the US Open qualifying there. PM me your contact info.

True on weekends. However, 5 hour rounds aren't super unusual on Phoenix courses.

I've never played a 5 hr round there, plus they have rangers. True it's a muni but not in the typical sense, it seems to attract better players. Not too many munis tip out at 7400 yards with a 75 rating

You should. Great "lay of the land" type of course that makes for a good walk. Most agree the weak point of the course are the par 3's. (all are very long). My only other fault would be the price structure. If you don't have the Phoenix card, it is not a good value for a muni.

Agreed on the prices. However, if you do have the phx card then it becomes a great deal and the card more than pays for itself.

To get the PXH Card do you have to have an AZ Drivers License? I haven't had a chance to get one yet.

What I have been finding is that it seems that pretty much everywhere up there is private. Does anyone know of semi-private/public courses up there for day trips? Or can I call the private places and possibly get on as a single? Are there any other areas that are close enough for a day trip for golf that may be cooler? Thanks for the info!

Instead of flagstaff, look at Prescott or even Sedona. Sedona is going to be the pricier and only has 3 full length courses, 2 executives. Prescott has 36 at antelope hills, then Prescott cc( public), stone ridge, talking rock, and a few privates you might be able to get on. Flag has se amazing private tracks but I don't think you can get on any of the big dogs

Flagstaff is a bummer. I lived there for about 7 years during and immediately after college. There are a couple of fantastic courses in town but they're all private. The one public course in town is kind of Mickey Mouse. Prescott is a good option. I've played both the Antelope Hills courses and they are excellent. Elephant Rocks in Williams is fun too which I haven't seen mentioned yet.

Forest Highlands>Everything!, played the meadows course twice for the State Championship.

Me and you are on the same page.. I lived in CO for about 12 years before I moved here. Love the pine tree/lush green courses.. I would be in to make a trip up during the hot days.. Also, I have a buddy that used to work at FH so he might be able to get us on.. Just gotta plan it...

Hey guys. I am starting to look at booking a round early on Father's Day, June 17th. I live in Scottsdale so around this area would be great. Need to play early though so before 7am.

If anyone is interested in joining me let me know. Will play with all skill levels. Just looking for good folks.
