Tomorrow is the BIG Day!!!

Well for the past few months (since February) I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of tomorrow, Wednesday May 9th at 10 am. My parents booked me a trip to New York back in February for my bday, and although I have already arrived, tomorrow morning at 10 am is my tee time at the Bethpage Black US open course. Long story short, my Uncle has hookups and was able to land me an advanced tee time months ago, and tomorrow the day is finally here. Since my arrival sunday, I've played 2 18 hole rounds and a 9 hole round just to get a good feel for the weather and my game, along with multiple rounds before I left to prepare. Sure, I'm basically a hack 14 HC and the course is going to absolutely destroy me but I can't wait for the round, should be a memory to last a lifetime! Just wanted to share my excitement. If anyone has played and has any words of wisdom or thoughts on the course, feel free to share! :tongue:

Thanks guys! Can't wait! I probably won't sleep tonight haha. I've already been to see the course the other day, bought some stuff at the pro shop and got that stuff out of the way. Bought a sweet yardage book. i'll post pics after the round. Not gonna lie, it has me pretty intimidated!

Philly- That's a 14 playing a lot at a course that isn't very difficult. I usually shoot low 90s. Although I'm improving greatly, I'm not quite where I want to be just yet Then again I'm only 21, I have plenty of time to improve.

Stay in the fairway and swing easy. Play the correct tees and don't be intimidated by the sight lines. There is more room there than you think. I grew up playing and sleigh riding there in the winter. If you get a chance play the red as well. Also eisenhower park red course nearby is nice too. Enjoy it. I still have pics from the last time I played before I moved off LI.

Yeah I planned on keeping the driver in the bag, but the last 3 rounds I've played, my driver's been working better than my 3 wood so we shall see. Gotta play the tips though. I plan on shooting a terrible score but I want the full experience :partytime2:

Playing the tips might not be the best idea, it might make the day less enjoyable. But its your call. Course is so so so much fun. Have a great time.

I'm more worried about kicking my cousin's a** more than my overall score. If mine is lower than his, it will be a fun successful day. Plus it's a day with family, should be enjoyable either way. But who knows he may want to play the whites, so if so then I won't be playing the tips

FYI-

The tips are pretty far back and they are still not the OPEN tips. Theyre are actually some tee boxes that you wont even see from the tips but if you look hard enough you will see them. Pays to search on some holes for them if the course isnt packed...which of course it will be since its LI Please keep us updated on conditions and how the round went.Thanks

Well, yesterday's weather turned out to be absolute crap. It was pouring rain all morning. Thus, they decided to close the black, green, and red courses Guess they didn't want people tearing up the course, especially since they are hosting the Barclays this year. Since playing the black course was the point of my trip to NY essentially, I was more than upset. Hopefully my Uncle (who got me the advanced tee time) can get it switched to tomorrow. We are still working on that.
On the upside, they opened up the Blue course and I was able to play. It was still probably one of the most challenging courses I have ever played, on top of the foggy, rainy, and at a few points thunderstorming weather. None the less, I somehow shot a career best +13 84! (I have shot a +12 at multiple courses that are not full length par 72s, so this is my best score on a full 70, 71, 72, course). No idea how I did it. I guess I had prepared myself so well for the black course, that when I walked onto the blue all aspects of my game were on point and I shot a career best! So at least there was some good to my day! :partytime2:

hey let me know if you need any other course reccomendations if black does not pan out, i know a ton in the nassau county area (its where I grew up)

Thanks glenbrook. What are one or two recommendations. The golf portion of my trip is pretty much over. I got to play bergen point (it was ok), Spring lakes 9 and 18 hole courses (again ok), and bethpage blue which was nice. What would be one or two more?

I hope you were able to get out today -- Black is fun. It's a tough course, but fair -- everything is pretty much right in front of you. I haven't played it since before the first Open there.
