Sunday Bag - Clubs to Take

Need Help - Process to Decide Which Clubs & How Many

I'm wanting to start walking the course again (tired of using hip pain as an excuse). I would like to have as light a bag as possible and would like advice on how to assemble a club assortment to cover the range of shots. I do not want to take 14 clubs. BTW I hit Driver 230 +/- to PW 110.

What approach do you take in putting your bag together?

Just take a Driver, 2 or 3 hybrid, 4 iron, 7 iron, PW, 56 Degree, and a Putter. 7 clubs right there.

I have a Sunday bag with Dr, 4wd, 22hyb., 25hyb., 6-SW, putter, 4 balls. Seems that everything is covered.

I carry an actual Sunday bag, a 2009 Titleist ultra lightweight, with 12-14 clubs and I can't tell a difference. I used to carry a bunch of balls but now I carry 4-6, some tees, and a few other lightweight trinkets to keep the weight down. Good luck!

For me it depends on the course/day. My main setup that I play with is a driver, 5W, 22* hybrid, 6 to PW, SW and putter. When I want to go ultra light I will take the 5W, 5, 7 and 9 irons, SW and putter. I use a Sunday bag all the time and just leave what I don't think I will need in the trunk or at home.


The other day I played driver, hybrid, 5, 7 and 9 irons, pw, sw and putter and that setup to me seems to be the most balanced and I can cover off pretty much everything with choking down, 3/4 swings etc. As mentioned above the big thing is cut back on what you don't need, bring just a few balls, tees etc. It will make the walk more enjoyable.

Driver, Hybrid, 4-W, 56 and putter... I just carry all 13 of mine though, I like using all my clubs.

...is a good "baseline," IMO. Depending on the course I might make a couple of changes, depending on what I know about the par 3s in particular. Par 3 length will really dictate the irons I grab, but the driver, hybrid, SW, and putter are always in there for a Sunday light-bag setup.

I answered it the way I would do it.. Sorry that your bag setup is different, if you just get a little quiver bag, you can take your whole set with 5 balls and some tees and you'll be set..
He never said you have to answer it with half a set..

Ended up shooting 82 (net +2) with only a couple of situations where I needed to be creative. It was great fun to walk and work my way around the course. I had a lot of pain in left hip for the final 4 holes so depending how I feel tomorrow I may walk the front and ride the back.
