I got a hall pass for Orlando...help me decide.

Ok, need some help from you Florida golf junkies. I have 3 days to play golf with a good friend while we are in Orlando. We search for great greens and friendly courses!

 

2nd week of June.

 

We like the following:

 

Bella Collina

Sugarloaf Mountain

Orange County National Panther

 

Any changes? We are staying near Sea World but happy to drive as needed to play. We have played many of the courses so these would be new for us. Let us know what's in great shape now.

You've already mentioned them and I agree you can't go wrong at Orange County National. Panther Lake & Crooked Cat

We played Southern Dunes in Haines City in March. Liked it enough we went back and played it twice more. Try Manny's Original Chop House for dinner.

Celebration golf club is not bad. I know the guy that owns it (and now Orange County National) and he does a good job keeping courses in top shape.

I would avoid Sugarloaf at the moment. The fairways out there were pretty bad, that area needs a lot of rain and it shows. I'll just post two pictures of the same hole to give you an example, I believe its the 14th hole that wraps around some swampland to the right. The pic angles are slightly different but I assure you its the same hole. First pic was probably taken 2-3 years ago when I first played there. Second pic was taken about two weeks ago.

Amazingly the greens looked pretty good, they weren't lightning fast but they did roll smooth. Sadly this course seems to be dying a slow death probably due to its "middle of nowhere" location. In fact this place gets so little play I went to get water from the cooler by the 5th teebox and a bird flew out from the bottom because it built a nest under the water spout. I love the layout of this course and the elevation is really something we don't get much here in FL. Just can't recommend going there right now even though the prices are so cheap.

You can't go wrong with Magnolia, Palm, Lake Buena Vista or Osprey Ridge over in Disney either! Definitely worth a look.

Falcon's Fire, Marriott Grand Pines are also nice friendly good condition. Waldorf Astoria golf club is way superior to any of the Disney courses. As mentioned before, OCN two courses are probably the best of the lot. Other options, Eagle Ridge, Southern Dunes, Grand Cypress New, Champions Gate International are also options.

You should also check the courses at reunion flordia, they have 3 championship courses on there grounds and the Annika sonenstan golf school. If you watch some of the lesson shows on the golf channel ( ones with Martin hall and Annika) that's where they are filmed at.

Right near Sea World? I have a timeshare at Marriots Grand Vista they have a short little 9 hole course. It is wicked fun, cheap and always in amazing shape!

Do not play Sugarloaf Mountain... I played there a month or two ago and the place is a goat ranch. Such a shame because it used to rank so high within the state, but the failing of the real estate development has clearly taken it's toll. If you're staying near Sea World, Shingle Creek is nearby and a good option. I second the Reunion suggestion as well. I'm heading there this weekend and will report back the condition of the Palmer course. Same thing goes for Celebration, or the Disney courses. All of them usually deliver...
