tour driver heads...comparison

Recommended Posts

tour comp vs. tour ignite 460 vs. tour Sq tour
strongly considering buying a tour driver head but as these are fairly hard to demo without the card, I was hoping to get some feedback from people who have these heads or have hit them. thinking about the tour versions of the: cleveland comp, ignite 460 and sq tour and tour 905R. all @ 9.5* lofts.

looking to get info on flight, feel, spin etc. my understanding of the comp is it's a slightly higher spin head, i love my ignite 460 retail as it is about a degree open, a spec I'll make sure to carry over in my next driver. i def prefer a deeper face and understand that the tour issues of these clubs tend to be deeper face.

shaft going in will be an v2 75x for now, driver ss: 115+mph.

thanks folks,
Josh

if anyone has a good source to purchase one of these heads new that would be helpful as well.

no one can make a comparison between any of these tour heads?

There is but a hand full of guys that hit all three of these in the tour models. I have only hit the Comp and the Titleist R in the tour models but have only hit a few balls off the tour heads. I have hit and even used the retail models of the comp and the Titleist 905R. In 10.5*.

My opinions are purely feel. I have no launch monitor data so support anything I say. My opinion is the Comp is a lower spin driver than the Tity. The face from memory seems to be deeper visually on the Comp than the 905R. I can tell you they are both cannons when it comes to the ball speed. I think the Titleist doesnt feel as hot. The Titleist has a far better sound to it than the Comp. I would add more but have to go.

By the way. There is zero difference between the Tour and retail for face depths in these two models. None. They are the same heads. Only difference you will get on the tour heads will be the face angle and some internal weighting differences.

when you say internal weight difference what do you mean? can an internal weight difference be corrected externally with lead tape? If there is no difference, then why do people pay so much for tour issue stuff(wedges and putters i understand, weighting, rawness, grind, etc)...?

ideally i'd like a face that is 9.5 degrees and deep with about a 1 to 2 degree open face angle. any thoughts?

The SQ tour has a little more ball speed than the Ignite tour. I prefer the feel of the IGnite tour and that's what I have changed to. It a very long head with the right shaft. I have an ALdila 85 in mine and can't believe how much better my driving has become..I like the muted thwacky sound in a driver..The SQ tour is a little louder and more titanium sounding to me..

did you like the tour sq tour despite the sound, increased ball speed is a nice quality after all.

yes I did. I like the SQ tour. The sound is really not bad at all, just different from the Ignite tour. PS..I can't tell any difference between the SQ tour retail or the version other than aesthetics..performance is the same.

Ignite "Tour" just had no centre marker, SQ Tour the same as retail.

To clarify, the Ignite tour heads are completely different from retail. Tour heads have .335 tip diameter, retail have .350 (presumably for shaft durability/warranty purposes). The SQ Tour heads (tour & retail) both have .335 tips, not sure why they switched the retails back to .335, perhaps the higher MOI puts less stress on the shaft?? It could be argued that the SQ Tour has little or no difference between tour and retail heads, but the Ignite does.

ignite retail is .335. the v2 75x in my ignite 460 is .335

And it probably has a shim in it. The retail heads are .350

I have a 10.5 460 Ignite Tour that's a backup w/ a Fuji 757x and I've also had a retail 9.5* retail 460 Ignite w/ a Diamana 83x. I really can't tell the difference and the retail Ignite was longer than the Tour albeit the loft and shafts are different. My problem w/ the retail Ignite was that it hooked on me more than the Tour and therein lies the real difference. The Tour is likely square to open faced while the retail was likely closed. In all honesty, Tour does not mean longer. In my experience, Tour usually translates to better feel and a square/open face.

I've tried the Ignite tour and the Comp tour, and between those two I'll just leave it as - The comp is in the bag now, but I wish I still had the Nike. I just had more control of the Nike, could hit it low high cut draw, and the Comp i just hit it straight up in the air with 0 spin. They both are long but I think I had more control over the Nike compared to the Comp.

I've tried the SQ and 905r in the retails and they don't compare to the other two heads in my opinion (you can pick up the tour heads on ebay for not much more than the retails). They didn't feel as solid and seemed to spin more/have more movement than I like. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can help in any othe aspect.

i've hit the 905R and it felt good, but didn't have the lively feel i've grown accustom to with the ignite. i'm going to try the comp as soon as i can, and i've hit the sq tour, but from what i hear the sq tour increases ball speed and has a higher moi than the ignite. i really think it's down to the ignite, sq tour and comp. anyone have any info on the face angles of these, i want at least a degree open. with the low spin of the comp that might be a bomber, the ignite has a degree or so open face, another plus for that head. keep it comin folks... appreciate the energy.

Sq Tour is a sick head, it took me a while to find the right shaft, as the diamana 83x was balooning on me. after about ten shaft options i went with the accuflex VS 339 X-stiff tipped 1 3/4", the thing is a rocket, and the head feels better than ever. I will have this head for a while, cause i just dont like the look of the squre stuff thats coming out, and i dont see myself getting anymore distance and ball speed with any other driver. i am currently getting 176-180 ball speed, swing speed is around 110-115.

It is almost impossible to compare. When we get these heads they usually come labeled with the COR, internal weighting or bias, face angle, and have the COG marked. It is really hard to even compare 2 heads from the same OEM because of this. They truly are custom. I don't really know how it will benefit you to spend the big $$$$ on these heads unless you:

1) Know the specs that will fit your setup

2) The exact specs of the head you are buying.
