Tulsa OK

Playing this weekend. Have tee time choice between Forest Ridge and Battle Creek. Originally playing FR but have two juniors age 11 with us and the pro mentioned the course would play difficult for them. Made a backup tee time at battle creek. Any thoughts on the two or other suggestions. And if you need 4 guests to southern hills or Tulsa cc we're ok with that too.

Forrest ridge will be fine with the young ones. Just play the up tees. Only a few holes with a full carry over water. They will be fine. Nice course. Can't imagine a guy discouraging a junior. Got to grow the game.

Of just caught that. Can't help you on southern hills or tcc. If you get a bite on that one I could be your 5th. Lol

Emerald falls is a good choice also. They have great junior rates. Not sure if the junior rates are weekday only or not.

I agree with the other posters, in the order I like them:

1. Forest Ridge
2. Emerald Falls,
3. Battle Creek

Not sure if you can get on as non-members, but also nice in that vicinity are:

1. Indian Springs C.C. (the River course)
2. Cedar Ridge C.C.
3. Golf Club of Oklahoma

Thanks for the replies, we're going to give Emerald Falls a go, and i think the par 3 at La Fortune Friday night. Looking forward to it.

FR is far superior to BC, both in terms of the course conditions as well as the overall experience (BC will be packed on a holiday weekend). Emerald Falls is a pretty nice course (but could play slow with the holiday weekend).

Cedar Ridge and the Golf Club will not let you on without a member, you might get lucky during the week, but the weekends are pretty busy right now at the courses. Indian Springs has new ownership and may let you on, I really do not know. It has been several years since I played the course, and it would be difficult to recommend it compared to the other courses listed with their struggles and new ownership.

I played 2 weeks ago the Southern Hill member guest (older brother is a member, I have to slum it at Cedar Ridge) and it really was a treat. The level of service, the quality of the course, etc... is really impressive. I am fortunate to get to play approximately once a month but with the member guest, they really got the course playing tough, with greens rolling 12.5 on Saturday.

The Par 3 at LaFortune is exactly what you would expect, highschool/college kids drinking beer, fathers and sons, etc... It really pretty damn fun. I seem to play it maybe twice a year on weekday evenings when its nice and the rounds are always out of the blue.

I've lived in the Forest Ridge community and was a memeber for three years before I move in 2009. Forest Ridge got new green I want to say last year and I couldn't speak to how they are at this point. The course should not be too big an issue for kids as long as they can hit the ball in the air. Second shot carries are needed on 4 holes though. As for other courses...Battle Creek had better greens at the time I was there but usually the rounds took quiet a bit longer there...Emerald Fals on the other hand I always thought of as being pretty impeccable and I always enjoyed heading out there to play (some carries required here as well). I think you can't go wrong with any of them for public golf....now privates in Tulsa if you can get on is an entirely different story....Southern Hills nearly impossible....Cedar ridge pretty hard....BUT The Golf Club of Oklahoma (beautiful btw) is always having membership drives and you may be able to finagle your way onto the course somehow.

btw....Emerald Falls is a more difficult course than Forest Ridge. Battle Creek probably the easiest out of the bunch

Another question, are any of you poker players? I'm thinking about hitting one of the local poker rooms and wondering what the action is like. I live south of Fort Worth so my nearest legal poker room is 2.5 hours away, so I figured I might as well play while I'm there. I typically play 2-5 hold em and PLO if any of you know which casino has the best poker room.

There are always plenty of games going at either the Hard Rock Casino or the River Spirit Casino. I do not play much, my younger brother is a professional poker player living/playing full time in Las Vegas, and always manages to find a game at one of the casinos. I think the biggest you will find at any time will likely be 10-20 NLHE or maybe 10-20 PLO. I think there will be plenty of 2-5 PLO and NLHE. Also, like most poker rooms, 6 to 8 game mixed games seem to be popular and I would assume that you would be able to track down something like that as well.
