Closed clubface and across the line

I was watching some great hogan video on youtube and noticed he gets his clubface really square or slighly open in his backswing to the top. Working on my own swing I noticed my clubface is super shut and across the line. What can I do to get that face more square and dtl or laid off? I have a 2 knuckle left hand grip with both V's pointing to my right eye if that helps. here's a vid too. any info is appreciated!

Hogan's grip is truly weak. His L thumb on top of the shaft (12 o'clock).

Entirely another topic, but I'm curious, do you experience L labrum tears/soreness/pain?

I dont have any pain in my thumbs or hands.

No, not that. Labrum is somewhere inside the L hip, the tendons where the leg meets the hips/pelvis...so its inside the L hip...

HaHa shows how much I paid attention in Anatomy/Physiology....I do get pain in my left knee but never the hip or pelvis.

Better would be weaken the L hand grip, then while taking away the L arm inside, allow or let the R wrist to start to bend and supinate/turn clockwise gradually while allowing the R elbow to retract a bit. Then allow the R foresrm to lift up to top in more supinated state. Yours are more pronated on top. It should be more supinated. That would achieve what you want.

Well, the hands and wrists look textbook at the top, so it may be the way you're setting up and gripping. EDIT: read about your grip...can't be that

Dont need to weaken the grip, you can cup a bit. It is just a feel. Do the ryan moore drill to get the proper wrist action. But agreed you need to open up the forearms on the backswing if that is what you want.

BTW nice reverse K in the other vids, I like the swing alot. One of the better ones I have seen in a while. I wouldn't really mess with anything. Duval kicked a** with a closed club face at the top. He was unstoppable before he got lazy.

Where is your original swing? Before you took up lessons....[b]if [/b]you did take up lessons. Interested in the before and after, and how you've changed over time.

Ive read slice's texarkana a handful of times and took one video lesson with dan about 2 months ago. alot of it has been just watching dans videos and trying to emulate guys i really like, hunter mahan, anthony kim, tiger (sometimes), although im way off from any of them. my biggest issue would be my pivot and I think thats the main reason why i get it across the line. ill post a driver swing I took yesterday and you can see how i stay on the ball too much and dont stretch the left side or turn into the right side like slice and dan prefer. Anyone who has insight on that I'd be more than happy to hear it. thanks for all the input.

If you try staying on that L leg, you would have to tuck your butt in or thrust your pelvis and/or jump up on your legs prior to impact to shallow out the clubhead. That's why you finish like an old man (the spine is bent forward of the hips, instead of the hips being forward of the spine---extension). Careful though, if you try to extend or turn your hips without changing other things you will hurt your labrum.

A few thoughts:

1) If you get a bit more diagonal with the feet, work on pressure positioning with the feeling of the right knee inside the right ankle, your lower body action will become more automated (by using the hardstructure more effectively going back).

2) Try to preset some a more acute angle between your left hand and the shaft at address. Might want to scrutinize the first of the 5 lessons on the angle in the grip.

3) when you get more diagonal in the stance, keep head discipline to the right of the ball, watch it leave from the left eye post impact.

4) sweet action, man.
