Project X PXi Shaft Review

Just wanted to give you guys my review of the PXi shaft from the Project X lineup

Here's a quick recap of the information from the website about the PXi shaft

PXi

PXi

The new Project X PXi iron shaft incorporates the hallmarks of the Project X band—tour-caliber spin control and tip stability—in a lightweight package. Project X PXi’s lighter weight produces greater distance and improved feel through an optimized butt to tip stiffness calibration.

FLEX

6.0

.355

.600”

41.5 – 36.5"

Currently I play Dynamic Gold Lite X200's in my irons. Here is the information on those from the classic section of True Temper

X100 / X200 / X300

110 /113/118

.610" / .355"

For my comparison I re-shafted my 6 iron with a PXi 6.0 7 iron shaft so it was hardstepped one time.

I made sure that the club was set up to the exact specs as it was before with the same grip at the same length so the total weight was basically the exact same as before.

For a little background I have played a few different shafts in the past including Rifle Flighted, KBS Tour, Dynamic Gold and Hogan Apex. I have found that I seem to swing more consistently with a lighter weight shaft and lighter swingweight so I was really excited to try out the new PXi shaft.

The feel of the PXi shaft is really smooth. In the past I have tried Project X shafts and not liked the feel, which is probably because I do not create a lot of lag and do not put a lot of load/stress on the downswing. The PXi was totally different. I could feel the shaft release but it felt very controlled. The trajectory was just what I like to see. The ball started a little higher but remained really flat.

The dispersion seemed to be very good, yet I was still able to work the ball left or right with consistency .

Overall, for me, this shaft suits me better than the original Project X shaft. I like the weight, feel and consistency better than the original Project X which was not a great fit for my swing. I think this shaft is a great alternative for those of us who prefer a lighter weight but still want the tight dispersion and flatter ball flight typically associated with heavier weight shafts.

Thanks for the review, hopefully I will get to try this out sometime. Still looking for a shaft that launches like the KBS Tour but with a touch lower spin

Gcg-
I feel the pxi play true to flex. I felt the project x felt stiffer than the marked flex in my opinion. Overall they just feel different. You really should try one and you will see what i mean

Craz- this shaft is probably the one you are looking for, put one in one of you irons and give it a try

Thanks for the review.

Wish there were more user experiences out there, this is a compelling shaft and I'm surprised we haven't seen more content now that it's mid summer.

Wish I had some time and could experiment with this shaft to add my own remarks.....maybe later this year but not yet.

I spent Friday beating balls with various Muzuno heads with PXi 6.0. They do feel smoother then PX shafts w/o a doubt. I got phenomenal L/M#'s. I felt it was true to flex. My ONLY Issue is PXi and PX are not joint friendly shafts so if you have any wrist/elbow issues, these are not for you.

I just got a full iron fitting and the results surprised me. Fitting was complete with different heads, shafts, and used trackman to track all of my swings.

I currently use the DG S300. I tried the KBS tour, KBS C taper, DG SL S300, DG XP S300, and the Project X Pxi 6.0

The Pxi 6.0 was the best feeling shaft in any head I put on there. The stats compared to my S300 were almost identical. I'd assume that I would have a higher swing speed next time if I started off with the Pxi's but I got to swinging them maybe after over 100 balls in, so needless to say I was getting a little tired. The first shot I hit with them I immediately said wow. The feel right before impact and after was soooo smooth. That's the biggest difference I felt, the feeling at impact.

The lighter shaft didnt mess up my swing at all ( I tend to be a smooth swinger). I can't wait for the spring to get at em

These shafts really are awesome. Yeah, for some, they aren't ideal but if it fits you then you will definitely see why you should be ditching your current shafts.

I too came from S300's and absolutely love this shaft over the S300 and X100. I never got on with the PX lines but with this one, totally different. I am playing this shaft in 6.5 in my 5-PW and 6.0 in the 3,4 utility irons I have and its a great combo, not too much spin but can get up easy and flights well when I need it too in the wind here in Texas.

Looking at spin rates comparing my iron with a VR Pro Blade 6 iron, spin was about the same sometimes lower in the PXI for me and I was a little more consistent with my ball flight and the pattern of the shots as well. I did carry the ball 3 further on my avg compared to the VR Pro with the S300 in it. I was getting 193 with my iron and 190 avg carry with the VR Pro S300. My iron game has improved a bit since switching shafts, more GIR and I am enjoying the feeling and flight I get with this shaft.

A few questions regarding the pxi- first a little background knowledge on myself...I am a mech engineer now a days..but I am also a certified golf tech with training from Mitchell golf....I have worked on golf clubs for 9 years now. Anyways, my question is regarding the pxi shafts; recalling the aerotech shafts that were offered at lower weights but retained a steel flex and performance profile, we quickly learned that this was produced by the integration of steel mesh surrounding a impregnated graphite composite composition. Thus, if re shafting was to be successful for individuals great care had to shown when re prepping the shaft tips.

Here is the question are these shaft straight up steel shafts and are their any installation guidelines similar to one mentioned above for use the pxi line...I have always been a fan of project x and the rilfe line ....but being a taller than most golfer at 6.5 inches I have been on the hunt for lighter shafts that seriously possess the attributes of steel golf shafts...thus any Intel and advisement would be great.

Thanks and Best Regards,

They're straight up steel shafts, albeit with a brushed finished, and some sort of lacquer coating.

They are great shafts, and look great too. I got some spectacular numbers with them in a set I had a few years back. However, I finally decided to try C-Taper 130 shafts, and they kicked the PXI's butt in every way.

C-Taper 130s aren't for everyone as they are pretty heavy, and the bend profile isn't the most forgiving if you struggle to get the ball up in the air. Perhaps give the C-Taper Lite a go?

I am actually KBS certified fitter...lol...kbs is a great shaft line...like you said their not really for anyone...I attempted to rock out the c- tappered lite x flex, soft stepped in my tm rockectbldz n series heads at an inch and half over length ( am 6.5")...they felt great...but off center hits were robbed of distance...I miss that old school rifle feel. Thus, my goal is to use the pxi shafts at a longer length for comfort and since the pxi's are lighter...then I reduce the swingwt....I am glad to read some much pos(+) about them....due to true temper and not buying in bulk...I ll have to pay out of pocket for these babies....lol...Thanks again for the insight..:)
