Ideas to attract visitors..

Recommended Posts

My club is starting to struggle a little financially. As most things these days people are cutting their cloth when things are a little tight. Just wondering if any club members have experienced it at there place and what their clubs are doing to try and combat it.

anyway my silly little idea:

The course is situated in Fife and is probably the first course you would hit if coming from edinburgh airport. So an idea i had was, If you are either arriving or departing for/from your holiday that day you show your flight itinerary and can play and get a filled roll and a coffee for £20 during the week... Usually this would be £30

Question is, would American visitors be interested in this sort of deal when they are more than likely to be playing the premier courses during their stay. It's a nice Alistair McKenzie track, around 6000 yards and perfect for blowing the cobwebs out after a long flight or before heading home.

And any other ideas would be most welcome.

I don't know. I have taken a couple of trips to Scotland in the last few years, most recently this past summer. Nice weather you were having by the way. I am sure others have much greater experience than I.

I have yet to find a good price flying into Edinburgh, so I have always flown into Glasgow and driven across. Having said that, I am not sure I would do something like this. I generally want to arrive land in Scotland, get to the hotel, shower and spend the day doing something. This past trip I arrived at the hotel at 10:15 and was golfing on the Old Course at 11:50. Would I stop on the way to play a different course, one you imply is nice but not "premier?" I doubt it. If I am going to fly that far for the "experience" in Scotland I would want to stick with main attractions (though I did really enjoy Crail).

I would think the best course would be to look for local money to bolster the finances. Whether it is limited memberships or straight discounting. We are running into this in the states, and it seems like most private courses are simply discounting.

So this is one Americans opinion, there are probably 320 million different ones.

You might want to hook up with local hotels and work out a package (hotel, meal, golf). Then make the rounds to travel agencies and pitch that package to them. If you feel up to it, you could look into specialized agencies throughout the planet and offer them the package as well. Google agencies who offer golf in your area from abroad, and contact them.

Paying to have billboards put up by the side of the road that leads to and from the airport could help too.

We are still having that weather unfortunately lol.

I totally understand where you are coming from regarding just getting to the Hotel, we do the same when golfing abroad.

Regarding 2 for 1 etc. The club already accepts 2 for 1 type vouchers.
