I am fortunate enough to get one of these to try out. Since I use R11 so I picked a white one to get that all white effect.

 

The graphic on the shaft is extremely simple which I really like. There is literally nothing except the name of the shaft. I installed tip with words facing down so none of it can be seen at address. Now I kind of regret it since there's NOTHING at all to look at, and it would have been pretty cool to show everyone the cool logo and "Prototype" lettering LOL

As it is shown in the last picture, the shaft is made in China. Some purist may frown upon that, but I don't really care.

 

Played 3 rounds and a couple of range session with it so far. Coming from Diamana WB, this shaft is a complete different animal. First round was a disaster as I struggled to find the center of the club but that was expected with a new shaft that's never tried before. A quick range session got me more familiar with the shaft and round 2 and 3 are much better.

 

What struck me the most is its stability. I could go as hard as I want and shaft was never overpowered. There's a drivable PAR 4 on the course I played, and you have to hit accurate high fade with 260 yd carry to get around large trees and bunkers protecting the front of green and stop quickly to a front pin. Two out of three times I hit the exact line and shape I wanted and ended up on the front fringe. The 3rd time it started on the right line but I overcooked the fade and ended up in the trees. Each time I gave it everything I had so I was quite impressed.

 

Distance is very good as well. I feel it's about 5-10 yds longer than when I used Diamana as I kept driving through the fairways I usually hit.The ball flies on a very boring trajectory and just goes and goes with a very slight climb, and then rolls quite a bit after it lands. I cranked one out to 270 yds into a 20 MPH wind straight in the face, and the ball flight never ballooned as I would usually get hitting into a headwind.

 

Because the shaft felt very stable, it gave me more confidence to work the shot shape. I found it quite easy to work the draw or fade. But high or low is not as easy, with my swing at least. Problem is that I alter contact spot on the face by changing ball height. While it worked well with the Diamana due to its buttery smooth feel, the contact was quite harsh when the ball is not hit in the center of the face. It is especially extreme when hit on the bottom of the face. The vibration was so terrible that I nearly let go the club. It is certainly not a deal-breaker and just means I would need to find a different way to control height.

 

Overall, I think the shaft has got great potentials! The feel to me is closet to Fubuki that I tried before and very different from Diamana, so depends on what you are switching from, it could take a little getting use to. It's long and accurate once you get use to it, plus it's super cool when you tell people that's Bubba's shaft!

BTW, I forgot to mention that my driver swing speed is around 105MPH, and my stock shot is a slight high fade.

I don't feel it is stiff to flex. If anything my EPIC 68S with 1/2" tipping was much stiffer than this one.

I may feel stiff to some because it doesn't kick as much as most other shafts I have used. Probably the result of he steel tip section.

Adams and Grafalloy worked together to create the original. Iron shafts were steel with graphite tips and woods were graphite with steel tips. They initially had problems with the steel and graphite coming unglued, but rectified that issue.

I tried the original back in 2001 or 2002.

Interesting, I can't really think of what the benefit would be to have graphite tips on iron shafts though.

I can't say what is new in this re-release however.
