So angry at myself!

Kinda new member here. I'm from Finland, so english is not my first language. Sorry for the possible grammar errors!

 

So I was playing the first round of my club championships today. The course was extremely hard and the greens were reeeeally fast. I shot 86, and was tied for 11th. I was pretty happy with that, as I knew I could play alot better tomorrow.

 

As I was leaving the clubhouse and was in my car, I suddenly rememberd that I did not sign my scorecard.. I rushed back and told what happened, but the caddiemaster did not let me sign it anymore (I'm not at all angry to her, as I knew she just couldn't give me the scorecard back anymore) So now I'm disqualifed from the tournament!!

 

I'm so angry at myself right now! To my defence, it was my first competitive round ever. Maybe I'll be a bit wiser the next time..

Ouch. that has to sting.. Sorry to hear. But I appreciate you posting this. I have my Club Championship round today and you just reminded me to sign my card when i'm done.

The good news is you learned this lesson when you were in 11th place, not 1st.

are players allowed to sign the scorecard before the round? or is it something that has to be witnessed at the scoring table?

If not I would just get in the habit of signing my scorecard as soon as i got it...

You have to sign it in front of a witness to acknowledge the indicated score.

If you signed it in advance all you would be doing would be acknowledging a full round scratch.

I thought this situation was changed on the pro level though, was it not?

Didn't Zach Johnson incur a 2 stroke penalty recently for signing a scorecard before the round was over? I might be wrong here

I'm surprised it happened with just you-- at our club we all sign scorecards as player and as witness together right after we clear the last hole-- did you sign as a witness for anyone else in your group? Did they sign your card as witness? How can this happen without happening to at least two people?

Ouch, that stings. I played competitively in college and our coach was a hawk when we were turning in our cards to make sure all the i's were dotted and t's were crossed. Although when I was 8 strokes off the lead most days, it didn't really matter... Sigh...

This just proves the statement, that golf is 99% mental! I bet you won't do that again! This happened to my buddies dad before. They play together in some crappy mens club. He shot a good round, I want to say 75? I could be wrong but that doesn't matter. His playing partner handed him is scorecard back without signing it. He handed it in and when he went to play the next week, they informed him he was DQ'd. I bet you and him will never do that again. Be thankful you didn't shot mid-low 70's and had the lead. Than you'd really be killing yourself!
