Editing mapped courses for apps

When playing a course for the first time using a smartphone GPS app I noticed how far off the front of green, back of green features, etc features were when the aerial photo overlays were turned on. Some holes were off by as much as 30-40 yards. What does this mean? Are they supposed to line up on my phone? There are several apps that provide ways to edit mapped information. GolfFrontier and GolfCard (the best I've found) to name a few. Is it worth it to do any tweaking? Does anyone do this for courses? I guess this might be a quesiton for Google since I don't understand how the overlaid Google Maps works with the GPS of the phone itself

Personally, I don't fully trust a course layed out using aerial phoography. It is way to easy to be off. But that is what most applications use for laying out and editing of courses.

Some apps use the GPS in your phone to map a course, which inherently has to be more accurate. Of these, my favorite is [url="http://www.mscorecard.com"]mScoreCard[/url]. You stand on the F/M/B of green and mark to that point, and do the same with other way points like water, dogleg, layup, etc and then you upload them to their server. I think SwingBySwing does the same, but not100% sure.

You might want to try skydroid, it's made for both android and iphone. When you access the skydroid website(on your PC) they have a tool that allows you to map a course or improve a map of a previously mapped course. They have a demo video of how you can map a course. IT appears to be very easy.

While I don't generally use Skydroid because I greatly prefer a dedicated GPS device, it does serve as a backup in case I forget my GPS at home or the battery quits because I forgot to charge it. You can't beat it for $2.
