My Yamada Razor is much heavier than most other 8802 styles. They accomplish this with a taller face and thicker flange.

Cosmetically, the neck and back flange curve are a little different than most. For some reason, I tend to pull putts more with it than other 8802 styles.

Good soft feel. The copper finish ages to a really nice patina.

Yamadas are superb flatsticks. They aren't far nicer than Bettis or Scotties, but are a quality boutique brand.

ok, maybe not far nicer...but there are very few putters i've rolled that felt better than yamada and none were scotties or bettis.

I agree. My Scotty doesnt even compare to my Yamada. Just regripped it with the gripmaster cabretta mid and now its just perfect in about every way.

It is extremely soft. Supposed to be the softest of all the finished. Doesn't mean you won't get feedback on misfits but center hits are extremely soft..buttery as you say it.

I have a Japan only IPT Yamada and also believe its the softest feeling putter I have which includes 3 Scotties and a Hiro Matsumoto. Mine has an insert, but not sure of the material. Face is a bit closed, but I roll it well. Currently in the bag, rotating with the Matsumoto.

A Yamada putter is what a Scotty hopes to be when he grows up. Incredible feel, solid (yet soft), and I too prefer the burning copper finish. Looking at the Yamada putters, comparing specs, etc.. does not tell the story. For all practical purposes, there is no reason the Yamada should be that much better, yet it is. All I can deduce is the softer carbon Yamada uses improves feel and feedback. In either case, my distance control is better with my Yamada putters. I have two Yamada putters, one a Musashi in burning copper, the other an Emperor in soft black. Sent the Emperor back to Mr Yamada a few months back for the burning copper finish. He only charged me about $50 for the refinish and it looks exceptional. Along with a Nippon shaft and Pingman, I have found the putter that works best for me. Took a long time to find it and have a staff bag full of nice customs, Scotty Tei3's, Bettis, Ping Becu's, etc.. in my office. While I value (and play) them all, the Tei3's the most, the Yamada putters are what I have in the bag I take to the golf course. The staff bag in my office holds all the others.

I have a Razor with the Burning Copper finish. Easily one of my favorite 8802 styles that I have. Love the feel and the patina is incredible now that I've had it a few years. I've contemplated getting another Yamada, but am still stuck trying to figure out which model. If you get one, I think you'll love it...make sure you get the copper finish too.

I had the same issue a few days ago. Not sure what's going on.

I know this is a really old topic -- put I was in direct contact with Dean Marks who was supposedly their front man for contact with mini-tour players. I have the Yamada Milled Imperial which I had reshafted because the head actually came off after about 3-4 months of use. It was pretty odd, but the head just completely spun off when I stroked about a 45 footer. Aside from that, it's still the BEST putter I have ever use. It is so soft and the feedback after hitting a great putt is just unreal. I have since switched to a SeeMore PTM-1 and HATE it (feels bulky, awkward to set up, need an arc stroke)...but I gave my dad the Yamada and he loves it way too much to force him to switch me, even though I know he would and wouldn't complain about it.
