Best public course in Sacramento

I am heading there in a few weeks for work. I will have time for one round. Any suggestions?

Sacramento doesn't suffer from a shortage of courses but, rather, a shortage of inspired courses. That said, within a short drive, there are a number of courses worth a drive. If in town, Ancil Hoffman is a great old parkland style course operated by the County of Sacramento. On the outskirts,Morgan Creek in Roseville is a former private course which is plenty challenging. A moderate drive will get you to the Ridge (my favorite of this bunch ) or Darkhorse in Auburn, Winchester (which I haven't yet played) or Castle Oaks down in Ione. If you want pristine conditions, try Yocha De He - associated with the Cache Creek Casino operation ; this will be an hour at least but the setting and amenities are spectacular and the course is generally in pristine condition.

How is Teal Bend?

Just OK in my book. They are sort of off my radar in view of the fact that they bundle (cart plus green fee) so I think there are a lot better values. That aside, many of my friends really like it. If I was letter grading, I'd give the course a B minus for interest and shot values, and a B for conditions. Good staff and friendly.

We ended up in Davis playing Wild Horse. A decent layout, but below average condition. All the other courses were booked or too far away. We still had fun.
