Ross Bridge is very nice, but the most expensive. I'd play it once, though. The Oxmoor Valley courses are always wet, but the Ridge course is pretty cool. The Montgomery complex is great, but it's going to be VERY busy.

Best bet for pace of play and greatness of courses: The Shoals (Fighting Joe and Schoomaster are both great layouts --- I think FJ is the best on the trail) and Cambian Ridge (about 40 minutes S of Montgomery).

THe only courses I don't care for too much are those in Huntsville and Mobile.

If you go to Birminghamd, look into Farm Links. It's an all-you-can-play rate and it's a spectacular course. Most interesting couple of Par 3s I've ever seen. They own another course, Limestone Springs, that is fantastic.

Well, my opinion is that none of them are "great" but they are not terrible either. They are all very similar as well. Don't expect anything unique, no matter where you go. Ross Bridge is quite unique, but only if you play from the Black tees, which unless you come out at 5pm on a weekday, they won't let you, unless you are better than Scratch.

The Judge in Prattville was Golf Digest Top 100 Public a couple of years ago. Supposedly a good place.

Friend of mine speaks highly of the three courses in Auburn, Grand National. As picky as he is about courses, I trust his opinion.

Of the 9 courses I have played I'd rank them as such:
1. Ross Bridge
2. Magnolia Grove (Crossings)
3. Cambrian Ridge (Canyon/Sherling)
4. Oxmoor Valley (Ridge)
5. Magnolia Grove (Falls)
6. Oxmoor Valley (Valley)
7. Lakewood (Azalea)
8. Magnolia Grove (Short)
9. Oxmoor Valley (Short)

But the difference between 2 and 6 is not significant. Lakewood is a rip-off of the highest order and the two Short courses bring up the rear simple because...well...they're par 3 courses. Ross Bridge is top notch.

I've played the Shoals and enjoyed myself greatly and they can play long. I've only played 9 holes at Oxmoor Valley's Ridge course before tornado warning ended our day.

I live currently in Prattville and Capitol Hill is my home course(s). Grand National is worth playing for the lake course as mentioned. The links course was ok but burned badly by hot weather when I played it. Just played cambrian yesterday, greens were ok but not anything like the conditions in Prattville. Oxmoor ridge has bent surfaces and usually are in great shape...a bit slower than they look though. Capitol Hill IMO is always in pristine shape since they get by far the most rounds. The senator just hosted the LPGA and is in fantastic tourney condition. For the money, I came back from a trip to Myrtle disappointed in what I got at Barefoot.

Farmlinks is great, but I would start in Prattville and then drive to Greenville and either B'ham or Auburn from there.

I have played about all of them, they are all pretty nice. I think if I was going to do it I would ask when they are aerating the greens and make sure you ask if they are cart path only. Most of these courses are hilly and if one is cart path only and the other is not play the one that is not they are tough walking courses. I agree with Farm Links in Sylagauga it is a very nice track.
