I just got my x forged irons yesterday and took them out for a range session today and wow are these irons the real deal. I ordered mine with the stock pxi shaft and I am really liking the penetrating ball flight whereas I usually hit my irons a bit too high for my liking. Also, these irons are extremely workable but I still can't get over how forgiving they are at the same time. It seems like I've picked up at least half a club length, but I really need to take them out for 18 to see if that's the case. If anyone is on the fence about pulling the trigger and ordering a set, just order them you won't be sorry.
Wow your results are the complete opposite to mine. I have found I am half a club shorter and hitting the ball a lot higher compared to my proto's. I do agree the irons are super forgiving and the feel is superb. It may just be the lighter shaft that is causing the higher launch. The half a club loss is nothing and but I am amused that so far I seem to be the only one that has gone backwards with length in these irons.
JB...IMHO...if you normally hit the 6 iron over 180-185, then the PXi would not be an ideal shaft for you. I think you mentioned having regular PX in the proto's at 6.0, which is around 130 grams. From personal experience at my GG, messing around with heads and shafts in the fitting cart...give me a lighter than 130 and I hit the 6 iron about 175 in the monitor, give me a 130 and I get it out there around 185-190...so yeah, the weight of the shaft for some us is HUGE to our game!! Just sayin!

[sup]Well, after hitting these since Xmas, I took my Protos back to the range today. As much as I like the forgiveness of the X Forged, the crispness and feel of the Protos is hard to beat. Could just be the Project X shafts versus the PXI, but I might have to put the Protos back in the bag. I'm not really in the mood to swap shafts on the X Forged at the moment. [/sup]

Dirthead, I can almost guarantee you that it is the shafts. Especially if you are a fairly long hitter with the irons. I like the PXi feel, but cannot deal with the weight...way too light for me.
I don't feel that the shaft is totally to blame here. The XF irons have a heap more meat down low and that would be part of the cause of the higher launch. I don't mind losing a bit of distance for the extra softness and forgiveness. I just don't feel ATM I am getting the best i can out of these irons. I do strongly agree the shaft has a large impact on the flight and distance performance. I am shocked to think that a lighter shaft that is designed to be as strong in flex and being lighter that will help with swing speed would actually cause you to lose distance over a shaft that it is designed to replace. This, I am not sold on after True Temper came out and stated that the PXI shaft plays true to flex. I am playing the px in 6.0 and if I was to swap to the PXI it should be as piped by True Temper a basic swap 6.0 for 6.0.

It looks like the only way for me to test this theory is do a shaft swap and see if the px in the X forged changes things and by how much, or if the PXI effect the way the proto's play. I may even try going up a flex in the PXI just to see if a bit more weight in them will help bring the flight down and bring back a few yards. My intention is to go to another fitting day and throw a heap of shafts into the x forged heads and see what is what and where my best head and shaft combo is.

I really like the XF look and feel. They in my mind offer the best of both worlds some forgiveness and some ability to shape the ball. I think that mix is about spot on.

There is only an 8 gram difference between the PX and the PXi... I can't see how such a small amount will make someone not able "to deal" with the weight.

I feel that a lot of people have gone to the PXi thinking it's going to play just like a standard PX... It's not. It's a totally different shaft, with different feel and playing characteristics. If ever there was a case for getting fitted instead of buying off the rack, this is it.

8 grams can mess with your feel an take time to dial in. No big deal.

I'm so pumped that they FINALLY waived the surcharge for C-Tapers. My set won't be delivered until sometime in until March but when they arrive they'll be the prettiest things in 8 counties.
Where did you get them with the C-taper surcharge waived? On the Callaway website it is still $30/club.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this issue?

Okay...called Callaway and was told by Customer Service that there IS NOT an upcharge for CTAPERS for the X Forged 2013's..but if you are ordering, you need to call it in to the Callaway shop and they should tell you that there is no upcharge when ordering. I am working with Callaway Retail sales area to get this updated for the stores special ordering systems also...

the Callaway ordering site still has the upcharge, but I am told that a phone call will be best to get it for no upcharge.

VAGolfer helped me out and called to Customer Service, they told him they are working on getting the upcharge of the Callaway site, should be a few days, but there is NO UPCHARGE for Ctapers, just call in your order instead of going thru the site.

The Retail side also sent the information to some of the retailers, and we will see if that is adjusted or not.

So here we go.

I picked up my Callaway X Forged irons today. I got them with the PXI 6.5 shafts and dark green Chevron multi decade grips. As soon as I got them home and removed them from the wrappers all I could do was sit in awe. They are one of the best looking irons I have ever seen(and I own the protos, so I've seen good looking clubs). But now the problem, what should I do? How to proceed? Should I dress them up in little outfits and take some golf porn pics, or should I go straight to the range? I decided on the range.

I place them oh so gently in the empty spaces in my bag(had to trade in my gamers, Razr X Tours) as to not get early chatter marks before I've even hit them. I throw the golf cart in reverse and old Betsy gives a groan. It's been cold here in Texas, and I haven't been pickling her like I should of, but I've been out of town. Finally after a few pulls on the choke, she backs out of the garage. I know I shouldn't push her on the way to the range, but screw it. I can't wait. After a few minutes of cold driving I arrive.

The range is empty, probably due to the 45 degree weather, and the 15mph wind out of the NW. I get a prime spot, warm up a bit, though probably not as much as I should have, and take my first swing. I can tell where the club head is the entire swing. It never felt like I lost track of it. This is one of the big pluses for me with these sticks. Complete sense of where the head is the entire swing. Nice!!! I started with the wedge, and the very first thing I notice is how high the ball flight is. Now I am hitting into the wind, so I'm sure this has a lot to do with it. But damn, this ball is as high as an open faced 60 degree. But it is a penetrating high. No distance loss it seemed. I cant really tell how the distances stack up to my old gamers, but i couldnt tell the difference. The feel is great though, very soft. Mantequilla!!!!

I start to work the ball now. Remember, I'm hitting a PW, so not the easiest to move. But I have no trouble at all playing high draws and fades. Very easy to work the ball. With my Razr's, I really had to work hard to hit a fade, but with these it was no problem. Now was this the wind, I don't know. It just seems very easy to start it a little left of center and bring it back right. If this is the case, the hard shot now will be straight. It's a problem I'm glad to have.

Now I break out the 4 after being so pleased with the wedge. The true test now begins. First swing. A mid ball flight and straight. It landed around the 200 marker. Into the wind. Not bad. I swing again, higher ball flight and lands past the 200. Into the wind. I still have yet to hit a bad shot. So now I'm going to try a fade. I lift up during the swing and hit the ball on the lower part of the face. Here's that bad shot I was waiting for. The ball didnt fade, surprisingly I only lose around 10 yards. Not bad. I keep swing and hitting more shots. I can't believe how the ball is slicing through the wind. It just keeps going and going. Very pleased.

I'm running low on balls so I break out the 7. Now here is the only negative I have during this whole range session. If you can even call it that. I'm in a groove now, hitting most of them on the screws. All most shots with the 7 are landing around the 175 marker. But every once in a while one will land 10-15 short of the 175. Even though I feel like it was a repeated swing from the 175 shot, it will land around 165. Weird. It happens 2 or 3 times. Now this could be the wind, but I'm not sure. So on distance control, ill have to revisit after a few rounds. Other than that, I can't believe how pure the clubs feel.

So my take on these bad boys. The feel is great!!! Now this is just my opinion, but I think the X Forged are softer than the Protos. The protos are soft, but mostly when you hit the sweet spot. Off center hits can give you the sting, but not with the X Forged. I didn't have one shot that stung the hands. So that brings up forgiveness. Even after only a short time with these swords(forget knives, they are swords) they seem very forgiving. On good contact hits, you dont even feel the impact. I know that forgiveness is subjective, but after several mis hits I believe they are every bit as forgiving as my Razr X Tours. Mis hits still lose distance, but even when hitting into the wind I noticed no ballooning unless up can be considered ballooning. The distance factor is hard to judge. It was cold and windy, and my distances still seem the same as the Razr's. now for the golf digested gold seal of approval, workability. This is where the X Forged shine. Almost effortlessly any trajectory can be accomplished. Low, high, left, right, slice, hook, draw and fade were all very easy to do. I was purposely hitting big bannan hooks without even turning over my wrists. Just an inside out swing path was making this happen. WOW!!!!! And distance control, I will have to come back to this.

Final verdict. I am very pleased with these clubs. All in all, I have to say they are the best clubs I've ever owned. I know, you're going to say I haven't hit them enough to say that, but its true. It's hard to find anything negative to say about them. And did I mention they are freakin sexy? Just beautiful. Plain and simple. Outstanding job Callaway. Now I'm off to give them a bubble bath and get them author more comfortable. Schwing!!!!!!

I have had around 8 or 9 rounds with mine now and I would agree with jackjv21 they are super soft and I feel are softer than my proto's. I am glad to hear that someone else is hitting moonshine balls with these irons also. I still watch in disbelief at how high these things go. I have lost around half a club in distance with this ball flight. I am more confident with the long irons in comparison to the proto's. I had a little 3 over yesterday playing with a hangover from hell. I was grateful for how soft these irons are and there was no jarring on any shot. I was expecting a bit due to playing in the state I was.

OK so I now that I have a few weeks under the belt with these,my initial concerns have been confirmed. The PXi shafts are just not for me. I am going to leave them in the x-Utility prototype's and put S300's in the x-Forged irons.

The PXi just doesnt work for me on anything other than a full shot, so given that I don't hit knowck-downs etc. with the Utlities they are fine in them but I definitely need something heavier in the irons. I would love to put c-Tapers in them, but the last two sets I have had with them I have had elbow troubles.

Will give more feedback once I have some time with the S300's.

Can I get an AP2 comparison>?
Yes X Forged are more akin to the Titliest Forged CB. I have friends that have the AP2's and the forged MB', and the X Forged are right in the middle. Smaller profile than the AP2's. in fact, the XH Pros are the same size as the AP2's. just an FYI.

Jb, what shafts do you have in your X Forged?
I have the PXi in 6.0. I have the px flighted 6.0 in my proto's. I think the 6.5 may have been a better match. The extra bit of weight and a touch stiffer flex. I think the lighter shaft and higher launching head combined is not ideal for me. the heads are great. Just need to get Callaway here to have the lefty irons and shafts combo's available to get the right match up. May have to try and get a 6.5 shaft to test in one and see if that changes the flight much. I don't mind the higher launch but this is way higher than what I am used to.

It will be interesting to see if the S300 make a difference. You could try the KBS tour as they might be a bit less harsh on your elbows.
