another "my golf swing"

here's a 3 iron up the line. unfortunately no golf ball. playing golf about a year and a half, never taken lessons just fiddling around with my swing using magazines and videos. don't play enough for a hdcp, but usually shoot in low 90s high 80s. want to take my game to the next level and would appreciate any input before i go take lessons. few things i noticed is my head bobs quite a bit during the backswing and my right elbow is a little out there at the top. my problems? inconsistencies in contact usually resulting in fat or thinned shots. i hit my driver and woods ok but irons can be a problem. thanks for any advice. :drinks:

Everyone will tell you, "The fastest way to save strokes is by improving your short game." First, by chipping.

 

I will tell you this though:

 

1) Your spine angle looks very vertical

 

2) Your body weight looks like it's on your heels (as opposed to the balls of your feet)

 

 

This is before seeing your swing in motion.

I agree with the other comments. A lot of your problems would be solved by your setup. You're not in a very athletic position at address. Your swing plane isn't all that bad, but it's hard to analyze your swing w/o slow motion. At address, I would also relax the right elbow a little more. A better spine tilt should stabilize your turn and spine angle, thus reducing the vertical motion of your head. In addition, from one swing, it doesn't look like you get all the way to your left side at the finish, there is quite a bit of weight on your right foot at the finish rather then on your toes. This tells me you are not transferring all your weight to your left side and you are swinging with your arms. Since your arms and club recoil and there is a lot weight on your back foot leaning back, the club is not being swung with a body pivot. More camera angles would be helpful. Check your setup first!!! Start looking to compress the ball into the ground. You don't need to top them.

your swing looked extremely fast to me. You don't have to hit the ball 300+ yards on every shot

Ask around, and find a good coach to work with. You look pretty good for a new player. IMO

I agree with your swing looking very fast in tempo. Try swinging the club 3/4 shots and at half of you full speed. Remember if you cannot do a good swing in slomo, how can you replicate it in full speed.

Really to be fair to you I would need another angle; straight on and down the line.

I'd recommend from the video you posted working on balance. Hold your finish position until the ball is at least 1/2 way to your target.
