Dunes Club re-doing greens this summer

According to multiple members on the greens committee, the Dunes will be closing for a period in the summer 2013 to re-do the greens. Summers have been rough on one of the last SC courses with bent grass greens, and there will be a conversion to Bermuda (no word on which strain). As anyone who played here in the last year knows, there was a change on the alternate par 3 hole ( between 13 and 14) to Bermuda last year as a test. This green has matured beautifully, and routinely is running 12 while the rest are 9-10. this green actually had two different Bermudas, one on the front half and one on the back half. The course will certainly play differently when this greens are in, and should be in better condition for a larger percentage of the year. No more worries about losing the greens with hotter and drier weather, and no more large fans by the greens.

Word is the course will close from June through September to allow the new greens to grow in. No other major maintenance has been discussed. Just thought all of you who come here for your summer trips should know ASAP. If you come down anytime soon, the course is in GREAT shape. Bent grass loves the cooler weather and the overseeing has taken nicely on the fairways.
