Stracka App?

I was looking for a yardage book for an upcoming trip and saw this info about an upcoming app. It looks very interesting and may really change things if it works. Does anyone have any inside info as to when it will be released?

Looks great, but does this mean that the golf course would have to scan their own putting greens for the app to work ?

Yes, it means each green on every course will have to be individually scanned with the laser survey data recording camera. From the info I can gather, there will be personnel from the Strakaline company that will arrive at the course and perform the task. Much the way the Skycaddie folks walk and record data for a course with their backpack apparatus. They are suppose to start doing this sometime in 2013, so I won't hold my breath waiting for them to "do" my courses as well as getting the info incorporated into a software package and released for my high tech enjoyment. The full package is going to take time. How much time, I have no idea. AAMOF, I read on their site where they are looking for people interested in working for them............I assume to record green data on all the golf courses. I guess the definitive question is......................How many course workers, and how many laser cameras do they have?

I may be incorrect in every sentence I typed, however, that's how I interpreted the info I read.

I just don't see how they could do this reading thing on a public course like Bethpage. The courses are full from sunup to sunset.

Now this is something really cool. But for a small town country club like I'm a member at I wonder when they would be able to get to map it. Wonder if there are costs involved in mapping.

We have shown it to them. Looking at the topography of the green is legal. Drawing your exact putt-line is not legal. In the settings of the app, there is a "Tournament Mode" that disables all the illegal features.

Downloaded it today. For the $20 annual fee, do you have unlimited course downloads?

Isn't it against the rules to use an iphone in a tournament regardless of whether illegal features are turned on or off?

The demo is very impressive and everything I would want. Easily a great value if my local courses were mapped. I might get to try it out if I play TPC Boston this year.
