start playing AJGA, IJGT, FCWT

I know my game is not good enough or even close enough to compete now but I know there are a ton of good players on here. So I was wondering when did you guys feel like you could compete on these junior tours? So I can kind of figure out because I am hoping in 2 seasons from now I can start competing my Junior and Senior year in High school.

I Dissagree. First i need some information. Age, Height, weight, handicap, average score and yardage that you play from. There are TONS of kida who play in the events that are terrible golfers, i understant what you are asking though. First i will assume your parents are not loaded, and thatyou do not want to waste their money. First thing i would say is to play your local PGA Section Jr. Tour and local golf association events such as MET (Metropolitan Golf Association) or GAP (Golf association of Philadelphia). Scores in the low 80's happen on bad days to everyone you just need to learn to limit a bad day to 75 or so. But in order to start playing i would say you should have the ability to consistently put up rounds in the seventies. Doesnt have to be low seventies. Scores in the 80's will pop up just work hard and do better the next day.

I agree with you there goose. I was thought his question was to compete and win. To play in AJGA's you probibly should shoot mid-high 70's consistantly.

AJGA is a different story... i know that he is a little younger so i was gearing it more towards FCWT/IJGT type tours.

I know I'm not ready to compete since I shoot low 90s :) . But I know what I need to get it down and my goal for this year is to drop my handicap down to a 12 from a 26. So I figured in a few years I could get a single digit handicap and get some experience on some other tours and try and compete AJGA my senior year. I was just wondering around where I need to be so I have a goal.

 

And Goose your right my parents aren't loaded, and I don't want to just go out there and hack it up and waste their money. I'm also going to try a few more local smaller tournaments that are with in a few hours of me toward the end of the summer.

Good post goose. I agree that you should start out playing on some smaller local tours to build experience. The first tournament I played in was an AGJA when I was a freshman and it was a big mistake. I was just not good enough to compete and was a little overwhelmed. I then started playing a bunch of smaller state tournaments and as I am getting better I am playing in larger tournaments with better fields now. Take it one step at a time is the best advice I can give you.
