I know I'll get some flack with this but here goes. Pet peeve of the year for me so far is the "Win Zone". TGC is really hyping it up big time. I think this is their attempt to bring more interest to the game, they probably want to lure people in who are more turned on with stats IMO.

No flack here. Don't like that anymore than that stupid blue line they draw on the green. Hopefully they will drop some of the crap after a while and just show the golf. Not too bad so far. Just a little gimmicky. I personally think the Win Zone is a waste of broadcast time.

I wish that TGC (or any other coverage provider for that matter) would give us stats like how far they actually hit their drives and maybe some close-ups of their bags. I know they don't have time for the bag shots but it would be nice. Wishful thinking I suppose.

I'd have to agree with you on that about the win zone and the blue line. Because the blue line is only for if you aim 12 inches past the hole(I think thats what they said) and the win zone doesn't mean much because people in it could shoot high and vice versa, so I'd say its a waste of time also.

I think that the Win Zone is too much like a math problem on steroids. Everything actually just boils down to who played solid golf. I don't care if the numbers say that somebody shouldn't win, and then they do. If it happens, then it happens.

 

I think that the blue line that shows a predicted break, isn't too bad, because it shows the contour of the green that isn't seen too well on the camera's. It isn't too bad unless it gets too out of hand and they use it every time that somebody is putting on TV.

Believe it or not I sat through about 7 minutes of "The WZ Expained" show before the sony which featured the creator of it and I was stunned. It is the most pointless stats crunching idea I've ever heard of. The guy just went on and on giving long answers about how his system is unnecessary garbage and how the win zone stat could be calculated by a mentally disabled 7 year old with a stutter using common sense. I felt that if I heard the term "Win Zone" more than 783 times I'd shoot myself, and thus I changed the channel to relatively much better progam (Scrubs)

I'm also annoyed by the Win Zone - especially the 1/2 hour waste of TV time for the "Win Zone" Program.

 

But the "Let' slow down and look at this car accident" part of me is curious to see how it works out after a few tournaments.

 

 

 

EDIT: Currently watching my TiVo of today's Sony and Paul Azinger just finished his round and came into the booth for his interview. Kelly and Nick start of with "Win Zone gives you a 1.3% chance of winning, but you are going to prove that wrong on Sunday, aren't you?"

 

Zinger, never one to mince words, responds with "What is that thing anyway?"

I agree. The Win Zone seems pretty foolish. If you notice the top 3 or 4 on the leaderboard have the best Win Zone numbers, thus the best chance to win the tourny. Gee, I never would have been able to figure that out on my own...thanks Golf Channel. :)

Next thing you know they'll have the "belt buckle cam" or the "tree on the right side of the fairway 10 yards off the tee" cam or something else ignorant like that. Better yet, they'll spend 20 minutes trying to convince us of the features and swing performance benefits of these innovative views. Right.......

The close ups of the swings ala Bizhub swing cam are excellant... my favorite part of the coverage. The rest of it SUCKS!! The friggin arrow and blue line on the green and the stupid winzone bs are absoloutly annoying. I also agree that the commentators are sub standard...maybe they are new with no chemistry yet so I will give them time but the other crap has to go now!! It reminds me of when Fox had the stupid blue puck when they did the NHL a few years back.... nonsense for sure.

2 hrs before Paul Goydos finished the WZ gave him a 1 percent chance of winning, he was about 2 shots back. But when he started to go on a birdie tier, the win zone decided he had a better chance, I think it went up to about 42 percent. Wow, what a tool!!!!

Win Zone...brutal....get it off. Believe it or not, I think alot of us who play know that at any time someone can turn it on or fall apart and this winzone thing seemed to make me forget that for a few seconds. Was nice to see Goydos win while Howell and Donald were at 40% probability to win the tournament. To the golf channel - quit being hokey and let players do the talking.

The 14 under prediction was pretty good considering they were on the 7th hole at the time and already 13 under. Outside of that it is a waste of time and confusing to look at.

 

Clearly the overall TGC coverage is.....well terrible. I can't imagine Finchem is happy. Too many jokes not enough real golf.

I also agree the Pat Green intro is brutal...TGC could def be doing a better job but I do love Faldo commentating (most of the time)
