Big Question for my Nor Cal WRX'ers in the greater Sac area

So without going into my whole life story, I know I'll be moving up to Nor Cal eventually, and it's looking like sooner rather than later. I've been in the industry quite some time now here in San Diego, and I'd love to continue that in some way, shape or form.

 

Basically I'm trying to get a pulse on what the "golf scene" is like in the Sacramento area as well as the neighboring areas within about a 100 mile radius. Is there much of a market for high-end custom fittings and equipment (my specialty) or are there already a few different businesses set up to cater to such a market? I know the company I work for now used to have a presence in Sac, but pulled out about 4-5 years ago and I'm not sure of the circumstances for that departure.

 

My vision would be essentially a custom studio dedicated to very detailed custom fittings with some practice areas and as much "on the spot" custom builds as possible. No one likes to do a fitting, then wait 3 weeks for their club to come in from the manufacturer, plus most OEM's don't offer a full range of aftermarket products when it comes to grips and shafts.

 

So how about it? Is that something that is already offered in the area, and if not, how much of an interest would there be in such a facility? I know we on this site are part of the golfing minority, but I'm betting we are the majority who would find such a place interesting and useful. Really any info on the area and what golf is like up there would be greatly appreciated!

I live an hour south of Sac, so I don't know all the places in the area for fittings and such, but I went to Haggin Oak's Performance Fitting Studio when I was in the market for new irons. They had to special order what I wanted since it was not off-the-rack, but that wasn't a big deal for me.

Not much in the Sac area other than Haggin Oaks. They don't have all the shafts ect. I didn't think it was that special.

Haggin Oaks has all the big OEM fitting carts with basic stuff and an outdoor Trackman. They own the sales scene.

iFit Golf in Folsom has an indoor Callaway fitting stall with a few fitting carts.

GripsFast is another shop near LandPark. They offer knock offs that are custom built for dirt cheap.

There are tons of basic pro shops on courses with a few OEM's fitting carts. Some have portable launch monitors.


Overall there is no place that offers the highest end stuff that goes much beyond a few upgraded shafts for drivers.

Many upgraded Iron shafts and exotic Japanese stuff is non existent beyond DG, project x, and kbs.

Golf is year round with a VERY good young talent pool and loads of addicts.

Finding a centralized store is the hardest part. Sac County is massive and golf is spread out all over. From Elk Grove, Folsom, Auburn, and Sac.

I would suggest a location in Roseville. You have lots of good golf courses and surrounding areas like Granite Bay offer high income clients.

Did you use to work for Roger Dunn's? Great shop that was too hidden in an old location.

Agree with Finalist... Don't forget about Golf Galaxy in Roseville, there is also a little shop in Elk Grove named The Golf Academy who specialize in fittings and are really good.

I've never heard of the Golf Academy. What do they carry? High end exotic stuff or standard OEM or less popular clone type brands?
