Free Golf

Do any of you have little free courses by you, like the one in my town?

 

we call it "the three for free", and it's better than one might expect...

Pretty quiet place... the village actually keeps the greens in ok shape

ya it's playable... the village keeps it mowed... Apparently it was donated to the village by the guy who owned the land and built it...

Wouldn't be surprised to hear that there's some sort of trust fund that the old guy set up to support it...

Then in the "almost free" category, we have a little Jack Nicklous designed par-3 golf ball extraction facility called Missing Links... It's a neat little golf course designed originally for use with Cayman balls... bumpy... $8.50 for a weekend round... very cool...

Used to live in Northern Minnesota many years ago, a dentist in a neighboring town built a nine hole course in his sheep pastures. Play was free but sheep had right of way, you couldn't play the hole if sheep present, a couple of the holes were pretty hokey but five of them were some of the best par 3s and 4s I have played. Wish I had something like that near me now was great place to take people new to golf to let them try out the game with out all the pressures of a busy course.

It's not free, it's paid for by taxes, which are paid for by you and everyone else, being that it's run by the parks dept.

Sharon Pennsylvania has a free course. Buhl park has been around for years. Set up years ago with a trust. It accepts donations when you play. Pretty good course to learn the game......
