Wood Brothers kind of day

I had a WB kind of day today.

 

Lucky to find and buy these...all came with WB head covers and even a WB bag. Shafts are DG S300 with the exception of the blonde Texan - X100. some knicks and scratches - all have been played. Enduring the "more golf clubs?" comments was well worth it.

Nice looking clubs. The blonde with white/red/white insert and BH06 stamp is interesting. No Oil Rid on toe stamp, just the words oil hardened. Definitely a custom order club, also no loft designation on the sole plate as well. Great clubs!

Thanks for the comments - I was wondering about the BH06 myself. There is a piece of adhesive tape with the number 2 stuck on the shaft so that also makes me wonder - backup driver?. Also, it has an X100. I bought them from a guy who got them at a storage unit auction. He knew he had something but not exactly what... I didn't steal them, but didn't do badly. I will do better on the pictures next time though.

I'll ask Dave Wood what BH06 is. I'm sure he'll recall which player it was made for. I'm sure that blonde driver was made for a tour player. Face profile looks like one of their typical tour models from the late 80s, early 90s. Great looking fwy woods too!

Here is what Dave Wood said about your BH06 blondie

Looks like somebody discovered an incredible stash of interesting Wood Bros. In the early 90's my tour rep (Legendary Dick Meckley) was growing tired of waiting for custom tour player orders to be delivered and worked with me to develop a few somewhat standard tour player order specifications that he could take out on the road every week.

Several of these models had DM19 DM 16 etc marked above the sole plate. Dick was also a former Ben Hogan Company rep, and a longtime friend of the Hawk himself. We had quite a few orders from players on the Hogan staff (J. Mahaffey, M. Reid, M. Brooks etc.) who could order a Hogan style profile in their solid WB model. I strongly suspect that this "BH06" designation was from the tour models that DIck promoted to the Hogan staffers.

Believe it or not --- Craigslist. I check it just about every day. However, most of the stuff on there is absolute junk. All the guy posted was picture of one of the 5 woods and said he had 5 clubs total. I was very lucky. They are in good hands now. And thank you, freddiec for the background check, I do appreciate it.
