Golf Channel Announcers

I'm curious to know what everybody thinks about the new GC announcers. I'm personally disappointed in Nick Faldo. Seems to me that he is trying to be somebody(an announcer) that he's not. Also, why did Kelly Tilghman get the job over all the other GC staffers? Maybe a woman gives a little different perspective on things but something is just a little frustrating, almost obnoxious, about listening to the two of them interact. I, for one, can't wait for networks like CBS to start picking up weekend coverage. Am I wrong? Tell me what you think!

The only person that needs to go from TGC is Inga Hammond. Her yuk yuk, Connecticut School of Broadcasting affect, needs to hit the road.

They talk way too much; i wish that they would just show the golf and keep the comments to a minimum. I liked it way better when TNT (?) covered the golf tournaments.

You are all correct in saying that Kelly and Nick are bad. Too many commercials, too much talking and not enough golf. Although Rich Lerner is seen in ad saying the Golf Channel will show more golf and golfers, sort of not true yet.

Like all golf broadcasters they seem to want to do everything except show golf, how boring.

As for the former TNT broadcast of golf, get serious, who wanted to listen to Billy-Bob Clampett and Ernie anyway??? Or Jim Nance CBS for that matter … All we want is Johnny (the truth) Miller alone in front..

I like "The Truth" also, but he'd never work out in a "regular" tournament. Not enough choking going on at The Hope or Harbortown for us to get the full effect from "The Truth". He's best left to majors and "top shelf" courses like Doral and Bay Hill. There's plenty of choking going on in them!

they are showing more golf then TNT/USA did on the weekdays so far... i dvr it .. and def. less commercials..

 

 

I like what they are doing so far. JM is the best though.

I really like Nick Faldo as an announcer, always have. They don't bother me at all...I think Miller/Nantz are great for the big tournaments like the Players, Masters, etc. kind of like Madden/Michaels are in football.

 

I've always thought Faldo was an awesome announcer, and I just like his tone on the air.

 

Kelly is taking some time to get used to but shes fine in my opinion.

 

Rocco Mediate is really good though!!

I am disappointed. Kelly and Nick have to go! Inga too. Rocco and Dottie at least make it interesting since they are on the course.

 

BTW, why do people think Kelly is so hot? Hot is Angelina Jolie or Jessica Alba! Com on.

I dont think that Kelly and Nick mesh very well together. For some reason they both look uncomfortable and awkward together.

In my opinion way too much talking. Faldo is ok at times, but what is up with his continual voices and accents he put on??? The Scottish accent every couple minutes???

Seems like he is trying hard to be the funny guy McCord type.

Faldo was much better with Azinger, Paul kept him in check, he tends to babble too much now. Kelly is OK but kind of boring. I like Rocco, Dottie is OK, could live with her, could live with out her.

 

IMO, the GC is trying too hard to make Faldo the next big thing, too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing. He needs someone who can hang with him intellectually and verbally, steal a little of his thunder. He could also learn a lesson from some of the old school British announcer and learn when silence is golden, let the action speak for it's self. I think he is obviously very knowagable about the game, the swing and pressure situations. He is also very witty, just tone it down a notch.

I absolutely love Kelly and Nick. I am biased though, Nick has been one of my favotite players for a long, long time. I think Nick brings a breath of fresh air to golf, he has credibity, he has a great sense of humor and he doesn't sound the boring, dull announcers like Clampett etc.

 

 

 

Kelly being a very good player herself(made it to the US girls quarters in her playing days) is very knowledgable and again, brings an freshness to the booth. Not to mention she is very attractive.

 

 

 

I give the GC an A for those hires.

I still don't understand why announcers (any sport in this case) feel the need to comment ALL the friggin' time. Let us enjoy the sport that we are watching.

 

Nick was better when he was part of a group and not trying to be "the star anchor" informing us on everything he can....Where's my announcer mute button??

 

Kelly..I guess doesn't bug me that much.

Kelly needs to go. Nick and Kelly just don't work together. It's Nick. It's kelly, she is awful as she sounds more masculine than nick.
