I read that review and found it very intersting. It is kinda cheap that odyssey chose to use stickers for the labels!

Can someone comment of the difference between models #1 and #2 (feel ,.... ) which one should be closer to the Newport??

Just based on looks #1 = Newport and #2 = Newport 2.

 

For reasons unknown to me, my local Golf Galaxy has had the Black Swirl in stock since at least early January. FWIW - the newport style putter with a 35 inch shaft swingweighted at E0 so they probably have about a 350 gram head for you heavy head fans out there.

I was just at Golf Galaxy and the Callaway rep was there. He said that they are releasing a huge quantity of black series in a couple of weeks.

So were the ones you saw at Golf Galaxy the Black swirls in the pics above or were they the Prototypes that they released a limited number of. The ones I saw at Golf Galaxy a couple of weeks ago didn't have the bronze look to them as they were more black.

I fell in love with these the moment I saw them. One very well might end up in my bag by year's end.

Just received my Black Series 2 today. I'll take some pix later. Looks very nice. The 1 is more like an Anser and the 2 is more like an Anser 2 (more square). The color is not bronze like a lot of the pix I've seen. The steel part of the head is gray, and the tungsten section is slightly darker.

 

The putter does have a nice weight to it. Odyssey folks I've talked to say the BS putters are heavier than other Odyssey putters that are similar designs.

 

Headcover is black and white with a rubber tag that pulls open a magnetic closure. Very slick and easy to use, looks durable.

 

In all, very impressed. Odyssey must be doing a soft launch, since these are in some shops (and obviously shipping to some folks).

I looked again today and they say "prototype" and are darker in finish.

Dissapointing line, i had the opporitunity to try the black swirls, was not impressed at all. They looked cheap-ish, and didn't perform like a quality milled putter should.

I agree with that assessment. Tested the Black Swirl proto next to the Redwood Anser, a Nike Unitized and my own Cameron NP oil can and the Odyssey was a distant fourth. Dollar for dollar, I can't imagine buying a Black Swirl before a Redwood.

Odyssey makes some of the best putters under 150 dollars, i will have to say they are good in that price range. But their putters over 200, and in this case over 250... i would take the unitized over them, the redwoods over them, and certainly a scotty over them!
