Wheres the best public driving range or range not at a course? Looking for good putting/chipping facilities too.

Stadium has good targets and is big, but a bit overpriced IMO. Mission Bay, although an executive track, has half the range dedicated for grass. That's where I chose to base my TrackMan out of.

Mission Bay's driving range is really only good for hitting 5 year old rocks onto a dirt field.

Stadium is awesome about getting in new range balls (probably why the price is a little higher), and many days half of the range is off the grass as well. Overall a much better practice facility and probably one of the best in the county outside some of the private clubs. Plus, Mission Bay lacks any short game areas that would be considered usable. Stadium has a whole back area with multiple putting greens, bunkers, and side hill lies for practicing chipping.

I live in the San Diego area and have never played Coronado although I hear it is great and a bargain. If you are willing to drive 30 mins from downtown San Diego, go play The Crossings at Carlsbad it's a great course one of my favorites in the county.
It's a nice course and 30 bucks is good deal (walking). Unfortunately, getting a tee time for a foursome these days there via the internet/phone is crazy/insane/impossible.
how about getting on as a twosome? is that as difficult as a foursome?
You obviously haven't been down there in a while. There's no rocks at all. They replace the ball every 6 mo. There is no real dedicated short game practice area but the practice green is in great shape. The city moved in all new personel down there about 6 months ago and the range and course is in good shape.

Nope, I haven't bothered going all the way down there. There's no point really when Stadium has the whole package. Almost twice the capacity for hitting stalls as well as a huge putting green and both short game areas next to it.

Ya looks cool but prices are about $2-3 more per bucket. Not bad though since its only about 10 mins from where Im staying

House of Forged(Daly) invited me to their shop in Kearny Mesa to get some figures. Just picked up one of their shafts so I will probably stop by there Saturday
Yea...I don't think many people travel to go practice. I work with a couple of the pros out at Stadium, and I agree, its a good facility, just hard to swallow the idea of paying to roll puts. I choose MB for my business because there's no cross wind issues and my clients can hit shots with any club (including driver) on TrackMan off grass any day of the week. There aren't any ranges in San Diego that offer that.

Walked Admiral North. Nice little course. Fairly flat for the most part. Was $40 walking, $55 with a cart. Probably wouldn't go back unless its under $40

Mt Woodson was much better. Beautiful entrance. Elevated tees/greens, lots of trouble here and there. Was $35 with a cart at 7:47. Would definitely go back, and pay more if I had to...

Just finished riverwalk. I actually liked it a lot. I sucked it up out there. Played the worst round ive played in a loooong time but i blame vacation food guts and fatigue. The course was in great shape. Very green and and well kept. The greens were lush and fasst. Nice course and at $42 with cart twilight rates it was not overpriced in my opinion.
