Struggling with hitting everything short! Need advice

I am really struggling with hitting anything at a decent distance. Also I tend to slice a lot of shots to the right. My 7 iron goes 130 if I make clean contact, and my Driver 200. I feel as though my club head speed is just as fast as my friends yet he can out drive me by 40-50 yards. This is my second year golfing and my first swing video. I do plan on taking lessons within the next few weeks but any advice I can get now to work on at the range will be helpful.

 

Both videos are of the same swing, I just tried slowing the second one down but it came out a little choppy.

Well I'm not hitting everything short and to the right anymore. I started taking lessons and its helped me out a lot. I didn't go through golftec but found a guy who is local. He video tapes my swing, we go over them, then after the lesson he goes home and makes a video recapping everything. One problem I am still having is my hands are too low at the top of my back swing. Is this just a flexibility issue and if so is there any drills I can do to improve this? I record myself in my backyard and still notice this when I watch my swing. I'm going to ask my instructor during my next lesson but any advice would be helpful, thanks,

Hi, glad to hear you are taking lessons, that's the best thing you can do. I like how you come into the ball, you are really getting a lot of energy it! I wouldn't worry too much about how high your hands are, that's something you can always work on later It is much more important that you start to get your down swing on plane more You are 'coming over the top' as they say, meaning your down swing is coming from the outside in when it should come from the inside to on target and back to inside. By cutting across it you cause a slice spin and loose distance. Look on Youtube to find videos for exercises that will help you with this and keep with it! Good luck, John.

Thanks for the advice. That is the first thing my instructor had me working on is to correct my swing plane. He gave me a couple drills I have been working on to come from the inside rather than the outside. I'll have to get a new swing posted because the swing in this forum is before I started taking lessons from my instructor. My biggest problem right now is that I am lifting my head a bit and pulling off the ball. Thanks again.

Tuck that right elbow into your hip pocket on the downswing and you wont pull your shot. Your swing is a little outside in on the video.
