Yet another example of poor technical commentary on cbs???

Two questions from a rules newbie:

1) what allowed tiger to take a free drop on the 11th?
2) what are the drop rules that allow Tiger to manually place the ball after getting two chances at a drop?

He got a free drop due to him standing on the cart path. The second drop he got he setup different so his foot would be on the path again so he could get to place it were it hit the ground. That was bullxxxx that he got to place it on a nice clump of grass. His second drop was perfectly fine but he moved his aiming point so he could get that perfect lie and hit the shot he did. There was almost no way he hits the same shot off the burnt grass that he should of hit it off of. Tour players bending the rules of golf. BULLSHITTT

I am cool I just don't like to see them get away with bullsh*t rulings. The problem is I have seen it to many times and also have seen it used against me in a tourney.

He was not using the rules to his advantage he was changing his aiming point so he could make his perfect lie so he could place the ball. His first drop was perfect but it was on dead grass so he aimed way left to get a redrop.

you guys are completely overreacting, he wasnt bending the rules or anything, he was doing what any player would do that knows the rules. He simply dropped it in a place that he knew he'd have to redrop so that he could place it the third time. He didnt "change his aiming point" or anything like that.

A very close friend of mine who is a PGA Class A has a saying, "THe Rules of Golf arent there to hurt you they are there to help you." This situation is perfect evidence. I always use the rules to my advantage whenever I can, it is just as much a part of the game as having to re-tee when hitting a drive OB.

this is where it pays off to know the rules and every option you have. he didnt break any rules he dropped in a way that would give him the best lie and best shot he was looking for.

one of the great things about the modern drop technique is being able to see where your ball will land. if you can get that ball to roll in such a way that you can re-drop and do the same thing again, then you can place the ball. there isn't a single pro that has't used this to their advantage, and I've used it a few times myself. if you know the rules, then you can use them to your advantage, its as simple as that.
