Here's the way I see it:

If an 009 is the right putter for you; you like the way it looks; it provides confidence, etc., then get one.

I get a big chuckle out of guys who state "I'd never pay $2,500 for a freaking putter." Then you look around and those same guys have dropped at least that much on a few drivers over the last year. Think about it this way: each time you buy that new TM TP driver at $800 a shot, you're 1/3 toward buying an 009. Even more importantly, what's the resale value on that driver after you hit it?

How many times do you hit a driver during a round? 14 tops (unless you're reloading from on OB shot). How many putts? 28-34 or thereabouts. IMO the putter is the most important club in the bag, so it has to be something that works.

Find something you like regardless of price, name, etc. and use it. FWIW, I use an 009.

Agree, this is a very well put response. I recently acquired an 009 in the 1.5 design (coa A006899.) I was a Anser 4 user 10-12 years ago in high school and college, and always preferred that style head with the shorter flowing hosel. This particular 009 really has everything I would look for in a putter - NP style, a short flowing hosel with more offset than the Santa Fe, the right length and weight I want (34/350) and a beautiful oil can finish. All of those specs put together would be very difficult to find in an OTR or other Cameron tour model.

So we'll see, I'll put it in play this spring and see how I do. I would have no problem selling it off if it doesn't seem to provide more confidence and better putting. I won't lie, I think it's kind of cool to own one, but it doesn't make me special.

Can't wait to get mine. Custom made for me, wohooo.

Hi OrientBlue3! Can you tell me how you can get one custom made for you? Is it through Scotty himself or a friend or smth?

I'm a golf pro and been looking for years to get a putter customised by Scotty...

Please reply!

Unfortunately it was a one time thing. I was lucky to get in when I did. I will post pictures when it comes in March-April.

You have posed an intriging question and, if you consider several of your comments, the answer becomes readily obvious. Whatever you do for a living you never tell your wife how much a club costs. Unless she's a player she has no idea and you can always say its a loner from a friend. If you pay the bills simply charge it and pay it off over the next few months or years as your budget allows. The new baby on the way does pose a problem...I recall the day my wife announced that she was weaning our firstborn (now nearly 19) and that we needed to trim the budget so that we could buy formula. I went from Heini's or St. Paulie's to "The Beast" (M's Best---UGH!). I've reached a stage now where I rarely drink (which actually, when I consider my beverage budget at its prime, would easily cover an 009 within a year or so). I have a beached gun-metal 009 with a Fuji shaft and stitch-backed leather grip. It is absolutely beautiful and I love it. My wife does not know what it is or what it costs. I have recently developed the jones's for a GSS and am regulary checking GolfWRX, TCC, ebay, etc., for just the right one. Oh, to answer your question, I am a veterinarian that got lucky by opening a shop in the right place at the right time, and now have four other doctors and a staff of twenty. Set your goals high and there is no limit. This is the USA afterall! Kevin

Kevin,

Thank you very much for this response. I think it is perfectly stated and very honest. I usually subscribe to this method of purchasing all of my golf clubs but for some reason, my wife is always catching the UPS truck knocking at the door, or she finds a golf club box laying in the garage, or some other trail of evidence I have mistakenly left behind!

I am quickly realizing that my life is going to change significantly when my son arrives in about 4-5 days and I have enjoyed everyone's opinions on what is IMO one of the classiest putters around.

wow ..... I suppose we all have our opinions. No regrets and no disappointments here !! I used having a kid as a reason to buy another putter. It was a girl so I had to get a My Girl. We'll find out what baby #2 is in a few weeks and then the new putter search is on.

i'd take a 009 over having kids.

a 009 will give you hours of joy on the greens. a kid will be the biggest disapointment of your life.
