The sheiks pay him a $1Million+ appearance fee to play over in the middle east. I'd skip the regular tour events too for a guaranteed mil.

He doesn't like to play Pebble anymore because of security reasons. The place gets too crowded with too little space & too many celebrities. He had an incident a couple of years ago where a fan got too close for comfort for him.

FBR Open, simple....he gets paid $3M appearance fee to play at Dubai.

Nissan Open, it's the only place he's played in 12 events that he hasn't won or finished in the top 5. Knowing this, he doesn't want his winning streak to end - (this was a comment made by Golf Channel 2 weeks ago).

I know that at one event, a "fan" with a gun in his backpack was escorted from the place and at several others, he has received credible threats on his life.

Some events just conflict or at times when he is prepping for a major: the timing on the Bellsouth Classic was a prime example. It was the week before the Masters and he prefers to use that time prepping for the Masters.

I buy that as a reason...but comon, Tiger show us some love here in some of the lesser known events. As far as appearance fees...come on.... I guess he really needs that $1 or $3 million... he probably makes that in interest over a weekend of golfing.

Unfortunately for fans, PGA tour pros are truly independant contractors.

I think it's ridiculous that Tiger can't find the time to show up at Milwaukee or Las Vegas once every few years, places that gave him sponsors exemptions in his 1st few months as a pro. Yes I know, they profited handsomely in that year's event with Tiger bringing in more fans. But how about a little somethin' for the effort, as Carl in caddyshack would surely say.

With the TV ratings becoming more of an issue, it would be nice to see more of the top guys showing up in the "smaller" less coveted events once in a while.

I know he mentioned the greens at Pebble Beach being the reason for not playing in the event any longer. I believe he said something along the lines of "it effects my confidence in my putting". I bought that reason for about 30 seconds until I realized the greens at Torrey Pines are not much different, but Buick is not the main sponsor at Pebble Beach. The poa at both locations makes for tricky putting.

In my opinion he felt it wouldn't be well received to say what I beleive to be his real reason for not attending, and that is he feels the Pro-Am is a circus. Like someone else said earlier, he did fall over an overzealous fan a few years back, slightly injuring his knee and I think that pushed him over the edge.

Then that means he made $2 or $6 million this weekend.

Did you ever think that maybe he just likes Dubai?

He also owes his sponsors world-wide exposure. He owes the lesser known events nothing. They are lesser known for a reason, and it isn't Tiger's job to try and make them into something else.

He said he would never skip Nissan since they gave him an invite when he was 16. What a shame.

He did? I never heard that. When did he say it? If it was when he was sixteen I think we can forgive him. When I was sixteen I thought I knew where my career would take me too.

I checked his website but did not see that he's not playing the Nissan? I think he has up to Friday?

IF it is true, that's terrible. He has puttered poorly at the Nissan forever but played it every year pretty much. It's hard for me to imagine it's because of his run..I don't think it means that much to him..maybe the wife needs some time at home from the boy... ;)
